Salisbury’s tennis team won 9-0 against Carson on Thursday.
The second-ranked Hornets are 13-0.
At No. 1 singles, Michael Ogden won 6-0, 6-0 against Jonathan Martin. At No. 2 singles, Clint Comadoll won 6-1, 6-1 over Graham Purcell. At No. 3 singles, Spencer Storey won 6-1, 6-0 against Casey Lucas.
Chris Derrick won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 against Matthew Martin. At No. 5, David Derrick won 6-0, 6-0 against Grayson Haff. Hunter Carlton won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
In doubles, Ogden-Carlton won 8-1 at No. 1 against Purcell-Lucas. Comadoll-Storey won 8-2 at No. 2 against the Martins. The Derricks won 8-1 at No. 3.
• Carson got another SPC win on Wednesday when it beat Northwest Cabarrus 6-3.
Jonathan Martin, Purcell, Lucas and Haff won in singles. The Martins and Purcell-Haff won in doubles.

Carson won 11-3 against North Rowan in non-conference softball on Thursday.
Kaycee Kennedy had three hits, while Kayln Ellenburg, Michaela White and Kinsley Bean had two each. Madison Barnhardt hit a home run. Krista Penninger was the winning pitcher.
• Davie County won 8-3 against West Rowan on Thursday in non-conference softball.
Davie took control with a five-run second inning.
Kesley Brown drove in three runs for the War Eagles. Brown, Sarah Myers and Abby Daniels had two hits each.
Myers struck out eight and was the winning pitcher.
Parker Williams had two of West’s six hits. Taylor Martin and Brianna Turner had RBIs.
Peyton Greene pitched into the seventh inning and took the loss.
• Salisbury lost 14-4 to West Davidson in a CCC softball game that was moved up to Thursday.
Caroline Forbis struck out 11 for the Hornets. Forbis went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Leea Earnhardt, Anna Tonseth, Katy Wolfe, Rebecca Malloy and Lainy Slate had key hits for the Hornets.
West Rowan center fielder Nick Collins will sign with Louisburg’s baseball program on Tuesday.
• Carson catcher Bryson Prugh has committed to Catawba Valley Community College.
Morganton Freedom’s Casey Rogers and Chapel Hill’s Sherry Norris are the 2013-14 Associated Press prep basketball coaches of the year for North Carolina.
In results released Thursday, Rogers earned eight of 25 votes from sports writers across the state to earn the men’s award. He led Freedom to a 31-1 record and the Class 3-A championship in his eighth season at his alma mater.
Norris was the runaway winner in voting for the women’s award with 13 votes. She guided Chapel Hill to a 32-0 record and the 3-A title to go with the 4-A crown she captured at the school in 1981.
Salisbury’s soccer team won 3-1 against West Rowan in a non-conference game on Thursday.
Ceci Cardelle had a hat trick for the Hornets, with all three goals coming in the second half.
Kate Grant assisted on two Cardelle goals in an eight-minute span.
West (5-5) got within 2-1 when Taylor Quinn scored from 22 yards out on a direct kick. Katie Bullock had the final assist for Salisbury as Cardelle scored the clincher with 14 minutes left.
Salisbury (8-1-1) allowed only one shot on frame. Center mid Nellie Brown had the tough defensive assignment on West standout Mariah Coleman.
“Nellie was physical, smart, quick and determined,” SHS coach Matt Parrish said.
Emma Labovitz, Susannah Dixon, Kathryn Rusher, Maddie Labovitz and Mary Seifert also were outstanding for the Hornets.
“Our back seven played a nearly flawless match start to finish,” Parrish said.
Joana Samono stopped a penalty kick for West.
Salisbury will play West Davidson at 5 p.m. at home on Monday.
Salisbury’s golf team won 151-155 against Davie at Oak Valley on Thursday.
Eric Edwards and Chris Queen shot 36s for the Hornets.
Abraham Post shot 38, while Gabe Steinman shot 41.
Davie scorers were Phillip Kelley (37), Seth Morris (38), Wesley Sink (39) and Colby Carter (41).

Former Northwest Cabarrus and Kannapolis American Legion star Brett Honeycutt, 25, had his college baeball career cut short by elbow and shoulder surgeries, but he is now playing golf professionally on mini tours.
Honeycutt will be competing in eGolf Tour, G Pro Tour and Carolina Mountain Pro Tour events this year. He’ll also play in U.S. Open qualifiers.
Honeycutt could use some sponsorship help for tournament entry fees.

The Kannapolis Intimidators lost 3-1 to visiting Greenville in Thursday’s South Atlantic League opener.
The Intimidators were held to four hits. Cleuluis Rondon drove in the run.
James Dykstra pitched five innings and took the loss.
Tzu-Wei Lin went 3-for-3 for Greenville.
• Durham’s Jerry Sands (Catawba) had a big opening night in Triple A with a 3-for-3 effort, including a home run, against the Gwinnett Braves.
• The Los Angeles Dodgers started 19-year-old slugger Corey Seager (NW Cabarrus, Kannapolis Legion) with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of the advanced A California League. Seager is still playing shortstop and batted third for the Quakes opening night.
Seager is considered by Baseball America to be the Dodgers’ top prospect. Seager was the youngest player in the Arizona Fall League.

Sacred Heart’s baseball team won 10-0 against Salisbury Academy. Jack Fisher and Blaine Shellhorn combined on the shutout. Riley Poplis led the Dolphins with three hits. Fisher and Shellhorn had two hits apiece.
Sacred Heart plays at 4 today at home at Jaycee-Optimist Sports Complex.
• Erwin won 7-0 against China Grove. Hayden Setzer pitched a four-hitter and struck out six.
Will Brown had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two. Trevor Scruggs had two hits, including a run-scoring double. Bryson Wagner had two hits and two RBIs.
• West Rowan Middle won 5-2 against Southeast. Olen Stamper was the winning pitcher. Stamper, Payne Stolsworth and Luke Waggoner had two hits each.
• West won 13-3 against Knox. Mykal Berger and Bryant Young had two hits each. Carson Bailey was the winning pitcher.
