The musical that taught us the sun would come out tomorrow, “Annie” opens Friday night at Carson High School and runs through Sunday.
“Annie” is the high school’s sixth musical production and is directed by theater teacher Alex Reynolds.
“Every year we try to switch up the types of shows we do to give the students a wide range of educational opportunities. I’m really glad that we were able to choose ‘Annie’ and make it this big and exciting for so many kids,” Reynolds said.
More than 120 students are involved in the production, from actors and musicians on stage to students in drafting, apparel and art classes who were involved in making the set.
The classic show follows the story of the lovable orphan Annie who works her way into the heart of cold billionaire Oliver Warbucks in Depression-era New York.
The role of Annie is played by freshman Morgan Warren, while Warbucks is played by newly bald senior Anthony Cataldo. Other cast members include Kylie Kluttz as Warbucks’ secretary Grace Farrell, Savannah Deal as the orphan-keeper Miss Hannigan, Jimmy Reif and Amery Barton as Hannigan’s conniving brother and his girlfriend, and Carson student body president Lucas Safrit as President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
And of course, no show would be complete without seasoned performer Carson Withers as the dog, Sandy.
With memorable songs like “Hard Knock Life,” “Easy Street,” “NYC” and “Tomorrow,” “Annie” is a feel-good show for the whole family.
“People should not miss this show,” Reynolds said. “It’s going to be one of the best we’ve ever done. I’m so proud to work with these students and faculty. There is nothing special like watching the lights come up on opening night. Don’t miss it.”
“Annie” runs April 4-6 at Carson High School. Performances are at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $7 for general admission and $10 for premium seating.
