Carson’s baseball team won 6-2 at Concord on Tuesday in SPC action.
Dillon Atwell (2-2) pitched a complete game for the Cougars (9-4, 5-4). He allowed four hits, struck out eight and walked two.
“They had a two-run homer in the second (by Drew Yoos), but Dillon dialed it in after that,” Carson coach Chris Cauble said. “He was as good as I’ve seen him in a couple of years.”
Heath Mitchem had two hits for the Cougars. John Daugherty, who is expected to pitch against Concord on Friday, drove in three runs. Austin McNeill knocked in a run. and Christian Houpe scored two runs out of the No. 9 spot in the lineup.

• North Rowan lost 3-2 to West Davidson in CCC action on Tuesday in Tyro.
North scored two runs in the second and led 2-0 until the Green Dragons started a comback in the fifth.
Brandon White pitched six innings for the Cavaliers (4-6, 2-1), and Henderson Lentz pitched in the seventh.
Chandler Simerson pitched a four-hitter for the Green Dragons (6-4, 3-0 CCC) and struck out 10.
Simerson had a game-winning single in the seventh.
Corbin Smith drove in a run for the Cavaliers.

Nick Williams pitched a two-hitter and fanned five.
• A.L. Brown lost 7-1 to Hough in MECKA action on Tuesday. Kameron Sherrill had a double. Matt Brown took the loss.
Justin Baker led off the first inning with a homer for the Huskies.
In Salisbury’s 19-0 CCC win against Lexington on Monday, Leea Earnhardt and Anna Tonseth had three hits each. Katy Wolfe, Lainy Slate, Kate Murph and Caroline Forbis had two apiece.
Forbis allowed one hit and struck out eight.
• In Salisbury’s 14-0 win against Thomasville on Tuesday, Forbis had three hits and three RBIs. Tonseth and Wolfe had three hits each. Murph, Dakotah Insley and Audrey Hudson had two hits each.
Forbis pitched a no-hitter and struck out 10.
• South Rowan beat Concord 15-5 in SPC action on Tuesday.
Sami Kennerly was the winning pitcher, with relief help from Kacie Stamey.
Caitlin Waters doubled, tripled and went 3-for-3. Beth Ann Martin had two hits and three RBIs, and Rileigh Ward had two hits.
• West Rowan won 5-2 at Northwest Cabarrus in SPC play on Tuesday.
Northwest took a 2-0 lead to the bottom of the seventh, but the Falcons rallied.
Hunter Gibbons had three hits, including a tiebreaking homer in the 10th.
Peyton Greene was the winning pitcher in relief of Leah McCoy and had three hits.
Taylor Martin, Cat Whitley and Kristine South had two hits each.
• East Rowan won 9-5 against Carson in SPC action on Tuesday.
Kaleigh Troutman belted two homers for the Mustangs. Shelby Benge and Taylor Merritt also homered for East.
Michaela White hit a grand slam for the Cougars.
Kaycee Kennedy and Mariah Morgan had three hits apiece for Carson. Rachel Freeze had two hits.
• A.L. Brown’s softball team won 9-1 on Tuesday against North Meck.
South Rowan won 6-0 against East Rowan in SPC play on Tuesday.
Keirsten Morgan and Wendy Fabella scored two goals each. Leslie Franks and Brittany Sprinkles scored one goal each.
Skyler Kicinski had two assists. Franks and Brooke Helms had one helper each.
Caitlin Chabala had the shutout in goal.
Kari Joyce, Kendall Lewsis, Maddie Amico and Kimberly Mancera stood out defensively for South.
• Central Cabarrus won 1-0 against Northwest Cabarrus in SPC soccer on Tuesday.
Marshall Wood, Jonathan Martin, Graham Purcell, Casey Lucas, Matthew Martin and Grayson Haff won in singles and doubles for Carson in a 9-0 SPC win against West Rowan on Tuesday.
Carson hosts Northwest Cabarrus this afternoon.
Salisbury’s Alexandra Drye, the Rowan County Player of the Year, will continue her tennis career at Christopher Newport.
Salisbury’s Emily Young will play lacrosse at Roanoke.
Kinston’s Brandon Ingram was named North Carolina Player of the Year by the N.C. Basketball Coaches Association. East Carteret’s Billy Anderson was named N.C. Coach of the Year.
The first team All-State team included Ingram, Clayton’s Gary Clark, Shelby’s Gabe DeVoe, Apex’s T.J. Evans and Northern Durham’s Ricky Council.
• West Craven’s Jamie Cherry was named by the NCBCA as the N.C. Player of the Year for girls. The first team All-State team included Cherry, Page’s Paris Kea, Cary’s Azura Stevens, Weddington’s Stephanie Watts and East Rutherford’s Rachel Camp.
North Carolina A&T announced on Tuesday that former Catawba head coach Chip Hester has been hired as wide receivers coach.
Hester replaces Johnny Cox, who was hired recently as UNC Pembroke’s new offensive coordinator.
“Chip knows what he is doing on the football field,” N.C. A&T head coach Rod Broadway said. “He did some outstanding things at Catawba.”
Winston-Salem State outslugged Catawba 14-10 in college baseball on Tuesday at Newman Park.
Trailing 7-0, Winston-Salem State (26-12) put together an 11-run fifth.
Jacob Barber (Davie) hit a home run for the Rams.
Julio Zubillaga (Carson) and Paul Kronenfeld had three hits each for the Indians (20-13). Zubillaga and Craig Brooks had three RBIs each. Keaton Hawks had two hits.
It was the first baseball meeting between the schools since 1973.
Pfeiffer split a doubleheader with Winston-Salem State on Tuesday, losing 4-2 but winning 3-0.
Sydney Poole (East Rowan) pitched a three-hitter and struck out eight to win the nightcap.
Catawba finished 11th in the UNC Pembroke Campbell Oil/Sunoco Classic.
Matt Hardman led the Indians. He finished 18th with rounds of 75-74-78 — 277.
Salisbury Academy’s girls won 3-0 against Sacred Heart winning 3-0. Ellen Simons had two goals for the Jaguars and Maria Capito had one. Ivy Overcash made nine saves. Sydney Hlavacek and Morgan Jeter had assists. The Jaguars play at home Thursday against Forsyth Country Day.
Knox won 9-3 against North Rown Middle.
Griffin Myers pitched a complete game, and the Trojans pounded eight hits.
• Knox won 10-9 against Corriher-Lipe. Chandler Lippard pitched a complete game. Knox had seven hits, including a double by Ethan McGee.

Intimidators
The Kannapolis Intimidators open the South Atlantic League season at home on Thursday and announced their roster on Tuesday.
The 26-man roster includes five of the top 30 Chicago White Sox prospects.The higest-rated is pitcher Tyler Danish (No. 10). Former Charlotte pitcher Tyler Barnette and former Appalachian State catcher Jeremy Dowdy are on the roster.

In the Second Flight, Ruth Bowles and Azalee Story tied for low gross. In the Third Flight, Monica Green won low gross. Sheryl Johnson won low net, with Norma Burgess second.
