North holds off Vikes

North Rowan’s baseball team built a 9-1 lead and held off Central Cabarrus for a 10-8 road win on Monday.
North (2-5) got three hits each from Jake Pritchard and Javin Goodine.
Pritchard drove in two runs for the Cavaliers.
Tillman Cook had four hits for the Vikings (1-6).
• Davie lost to R.J. Reynolds 10-2 in CPC action on Monday.
“Carson Bishop pitched well, but we didn’t field it behind him,” Davie coach Bobby Byerly said.
Charlie Muchukot had two hits for Davie (3-6).
• West Davidson thumped Thomasville 10-0 in six innings in CCC baseball, breaking open a tight game in the fifth with four runs.
Chandler Simerson pitched the shutout and fanned 10 Bulldogs.
• The Greater Cabarrus Homeschool Stallions tied Pine Lake Prep 2-2 in a game called due to darkness after 11 innings.
Josh Holt’s two-run double accounted for the scoring by the Stallions.
Hunter Shepherd and Sawyer Stickland did the job on the mound.
West Rowan won 10-0 against Concord in SPC play in Mount Ulla on Monday.
Catherine Whitley and Taylor Martin had three hits each for the Falcons.
Peyton Greene had two hits and three RBIs.
Greene and Kristine South combined in the circle.
• South Rowan lost 3-2 to Northwest Cabarrus in SPC baseball on Monday.
Caitlin Waters had two hits for South, while Caroline Hubbard had a double and Makayla Strickland had a run-scoring single.
Logan Lowery struck out nine batters for South.
Katie Williford was strong in the circle for the Trojans, who rallied in the seventh for the tying and winning runs.
A.L. Brown fullback Gabe Lucero has signed with Bluefield College.

Carson stayed unbeaten with an 8-0 SPC win against East Rowan on Monday.
Katie Barringer scored three goals. Cierra Josey scored twice. Cassie Howard, Sarah Safrit and Katie Nichols had one each.
• Leslie Franks scored four goals as South Rowan won 5-0 against Concord in SPC action on Monday.
Caitlin Chabala had the shutout in goal, and Keirsten Morgan scored the other goal for the Raiders.
Franks, Morgan, Brittany Sprinkles and Skyler Kicinski had assists.
Wendy Fabella, Brooke Helms, Kari Joyce and Maddie Amico led the defense.
South is scheduled to play at Hickory Ridge tonight.
East Rowan’s tennis team posted a 7-2 win against SPC opponent Northwest Cabarrus on Monday.
Justin Allen, Chance Brown, Robert Gray, Jeremy Price and Evan Rogers racked up singles wins for the Mustangs (5-1, 3-0).
Allen-Rogers and Gray-Price won doubles matches.
East plays West at home on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
• Salisbury’s tennis team stayed unbeaten with a 9-0 CCC win against North Rowan. Clint Comadoll, Spencer Storey, Chris Derrick, David Derrick, Hunter Carlton and Alex Julian won in singles.
Doubles winners were Comadoll-Storey, the Derricks and Carlton-Julian.
Salisbuy shot 163 and won a CCC match at Sapona Ridge on Monday against West Davidson (170), East Davidson (188), North Rowan (201), Lexington (225) and Thomasville (275).
Salisbury’s Eric Edwards shot 37 for medalist honors.
Chris Queen shot 40, while Abraham Post and Gabe Steinman shot 43s.
Nathan Curry shot 39 for West Davidson.
North’s scorers were Tyler Mulkey (42), Luke Miller (51), Steven Thurston (52) and Brodie Madison (56).
Knox won 7-2 against Southeast in boys tennis.
Singles winners for Knox were Simon Post, Roarke Burton, Cole Goodnight, Luke Grenoble and Christian Gonzalez.
Doubles winners for the Trojans were Post-Goodnight and Burton-Grenoble.
Knox (2-0) will visit North Rowan Middle today.
West Rowan’s Bulldogs opened with an 8-1 win against Corriher-Lipe.
Owen White pitched four innings and struck out six.
White hit a home run. Cole Hales had two hits.
West plays North Middle today and is at Mooresville Middle on Wednesday.
Catawba’s women’s golf team finished 14th in the Wingate Pinehurst Challenge.
Eighteen teams competed in the two-day tournament.
Leslie Long led the Indians with an eighth-place finish at 163. Madison Kennedy (Salisbury) shot 171 and finished 22nd.
Tyler Ulrich scored late in the second overtime to lift Catawba to a 9-8 win against Queens in SAC men’s lacrosse on Monday at Shuford Stadium.
Pete Wesselman made 12 saves. John Scheich scored three goals for the Indians (6-4, 4-1).
Lenoir-Rhyne’s Jazmine Charles, who starred at Central Davidson, was named to the Daktronics All-America team. The SAC Player of the Year averaged 17.4 points and 6.6 rebounds.
Carson girls basketball will be hosting Monday night middle school clinics starting March 31. Clinics will run 6-8 p.m. at the Carson gym on March 31; April 7, 14, and 28; May 5, 12, and 19; and June 2.

The 2nd Annual Charlie Gillispie Memorial Spring Handicap Tournament was held at McCanless Golf Club over the last two Sundays (March 16th and 23rd). The event was shortened to 27 holes due to weather. The results were as follows:

1st Place- Eric Richardson (Net score- Even Par, 104 (27 holes))
2nd Place- Treva Honeycutt (Net score- 3 Over, 107 (27 holes)) Treva was also the low female
3rd Place- Jeff Warren (Net score- 8 Over, 112 (27 holes))

Salisbury Parks and Recreation is accepting registrations for youth soccer and youth baseball leagues.
Soccer is coed and is for ages 4-13. The cost is $20.
Baseball is coed for ages 4-9 and is free.

Intimidators
The Kannapolis Intimidators open the season at home against Greenville on Thursday, April 3, at 7:05 p.m.

USC Upstate’s Ross Oden (East) ran a personal best 5,000 meter race Friday night at the Charlotte 49er Classic Oden finished in 14:56 and currently holds Upstate’s second fast 5k time.

Due to the weather many spring sports have been challenged by cancelled meets and games and/or cancelled or modified practices. Through all that the WRHS Track and Field team did an oustanding job at the South High School track this past Thursday March 20th.
It was a 5 school meet with the following schools in attendance: South Rowan (Host), Northwest, East Rowan, Concord, and West Rowan.
The boys team totals got them a second place with 84 points and the girls were third with 81 points.
For a five school meet first place scores 8 points, second 6, third 4, fouth 2 and fifth 1 point. For relays first 8, second 6, third 4 and fourth 2.
