SALISBURY — Rowan County Chamber of Commerce is taking applications for 2014–2015 Leadership Rowan.
During the nine-month program, participants get an in-depth view of community issues, develop skills necessary to assume leadership roles and are exposed to community involvement opportunities.
Leadership Rowan provides participants with the opportunity to meet and discuss issues with key community leaders. Participants study the qualities that make an effective leader, analyze individual leadership roles and develop personal leadership styles and skills. They are then challenged to apply their talents by joining professional associations, civic clubs, public boards and commissions.
Natasha Lipscomb of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is a Leadership Rowan graduate and said she feels more responsible for the community. “As a community leader, I can stress that each student has ‘social responsibility’ and can make a difference,” Lipscomb said.
She said she now can better help RCCC students decide which volunteer organizations to get involved in.
