Upcoming fundraisers support Relay for Life

Relay For Life in Rowan County is gearing up for its 20th year at the main Relay event May 2.
In the meantime, teams are raising funds so that Relay meets its fundraising goal for 2014. Money raised supports the American Cancer Society.
Here are fundraisers throughout the rest of March and April:
• During the remainder of the month of March, team Central Celebrates Life will offer 10 percent of Thirty-one product sales to Relay For Life. This is an online sale. Contact Heather304@carolina.rr.com or 704-202-5649 for more information. For a catalog, contact Lynne 704-638-9492.
• Today, 6 p.m.-8 p.m. — Work out at a Zumbathon at Grace Lutheran Church. Cost is $5, but more can be donated. Instructors are Kristi Miller, Elizabeth Clarke, and Carmen Lentz. The church is located at 3020 Grace Church Road.
• Friday, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. — The City of Salisbury team hosts its annual hot dog luncheon at the Central Fire Station, 514 E. Innes St. A one-hotdog plate is $4, a two-hotdog plate is $5 (each includes bag of chips, dessert and a drink); additional hotdogs available for $1. • Saturday, 10 a.m.-noon — The Hope Matters Relay For Life team will host a Thirty-One party at 215 Settlers Grove Lane, Salisbury. Online purchases can be made. For online purchases, go to www.mythirtyone.com/LLBUBBLES .
• March 27, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. — The Rowan County Sheriff’s team will sell sausage sandwiches and hot dogs in the courthouse parking lot. A sausage sandwich or hot dog is $2; a plate with hot dog, chips and drink is $5. • March 29, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. — The East Rowan High School Relay team will host a vendor fair at the school, 175 St. Luke’s Church Road. Donation to rent a space as a vendor is $20 and vendors will donate 10 percent of sales to Relay. More information: Julie Smith juliesmith60@gmx.com or 704-647-1193.
• March 29 — The Cruisers Relay For Life Team will host a vendor fair starting at 10 a.m. and gospel singing starting at 5 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 200 Clearview Road, Cleveland. Cost is $5 to attend. Door prizes will be awarded. CJ’s BBQ will sell sandwiches with drink and chips. CJ’s offers 10 percent discount cards at the event and will donate a portion of sales to Relay for Life. • March 29, 4 p.m.-7 p.m. — The Sweet Potato Queens wil host a homemade chicken and noodle dinner, Organ Lutheran Church fellowship hall, 1515 Organ Church Road. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children under 6 and includes chicken and noodles, slaw, crackers, pickles, dessert and drink. Hot dogs available, too. • March 30, noon — Team Central Celebrates Life will host a spaghetti dinner at Central United Methodist Church, 200 4th St., Spencer. Cost is $7 and includes spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and sweet or unsweet tea. More information: Lynne at lynne304@carolina.rr.com or 704-638-9492.
• March 31, 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. — F&M Bank Dream team will host a Zumba night at the Trolley Barn, 125 E. Liberty St. Cost is $5 per person. Wear tutus, tiaras, and anything else fun. More information: email Traceymckenzie22@gmail.com or tbarber@fmbnc.com.
• April 5 — Relay Golf Tourney at McCanless Golf Club, Stokes Ferry Road, hosted by The Avon Ladies Relay team. Starts at 1 p.m. with registration and barbecue lunch. Cost is $45 per person on four-player teams. More information: Brenda at 704-431-4165 or mamapurpleflowers@yahoo.com.
• April 5, 5 p.m.-10 p.m. — The Little Black Dress Affair at Salisbury Civic Center, 315 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. S., in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Relay For Life in Rowan County. Admission is free for those currently battling cancer, $10 for survivors, and $20 for all others. Dress in your little black dress accessorized in your favorite color (gentlemen welcome to dress up for the occasion, too) and enjoy vendors, good food, dancing to a DJ’s music, drawing, silent auction and a birthday party. • April 8, 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. — The Christ United Methodist Church team will host a Thirty-One party in the church Family Life Center. View sample items and peruse catalogs. Refreshments provided. • April 12 — 10th Annual Livin’ Good Livengood Tournament, Corbin Hills Golf Club. Registration and a hot dog and hamburger lunch begin at 12:30 p.m., with shotgun start at 2 p.m. Play is captain’s choice format for four-member teams. Cost is $50 per player, $200 per team. • April 12, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. — Hope Matters Spring Expo for Relay in the gym at Salisbury Academy, 2210 Jake Alexander Blvd. Find jewelry, crafts, books, food items, scents, cosmetics and more, presented by more than 22 vendors. More information: Penny, 704-202-5445.
• April 18, 5 p.m. — Hot dog and bingo night hosted by team Central Celebrates Life, Central United Methodist Church, Spencer. Cost is $5 for hot dog, chips and drink. Bingo cards are $3 each or two for $5. More information: Lynne304@carolina.rr.com or 704-638-9492.
• April 22-24 — Sweet Frog Premium Yogurt, 912 E. Innes St., will donate 20 percent of yogurt sales to Relay when you mention Relay For Life as you place your order.
• April 24, 5 p.m.-8 p.m. — Mention Relay For Life when you place your order at Chick-Fil-A, 902 E. Innes St., and 10 percent of your purchase will benefit Relay. Another Relay Spirit Night takes place May 21.
• April 26 — Paint the County Purple. Residents and businesses in Rowan can buy purple bows to display for $5. Proceeds benefit the work of the American Cancer Society. • April 26 — Relay For Life of Rowan County hosts its annual Survivors’ and Caregivers’ Dinner at the First Ministry Center at First Baptist Church, 223 N. Fulton St. Free to survivors and $5 for each caregiver or guest. Registration and RSVP required. • April 30, 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. — Dogs for a Cause, hosted by F&M Dream Team on Easy Street, near the F&M Trolley Barn at 125 E. Liberty St. The $5 cost includes two hot dogs, chips, soda and dessert with extras available at single item prices.

• Twin Peaks Custom Cycle Relay Team will draw a winning ticket at the May 2 Relay For Life event for a handmade quilt fashioned from past Relay T-shirts. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. • The Darrell Harwood Team is selling “LET’S ROCK THE WALK” T-shirts sizes S-XL for $10 and XXL for $12. The team also offers incentives for sponsorships from $250 to $2,500. Incentives include VIP tickets, autographed posters and private music shows. • The Steve’s Strutters Relay team will draw a ticket May 2 for a two-night stay at Balsam Mountain Preserve, two free rounds of golf, and use of club amenities. • Team Rejoice collects used cellular phones co-sponsored by Power House Recycler. Cell phones in any condition — working, broken, new, used or outdated — equal a donation to the American Cancer Society through Relay For Life of Rowan County. • The Cruisers Relay For Life team is selling hot plates and coasters handmade by their children. Cost is $5 per hot plate or set of four coasters.
