SALISBURY — Hood Theological Seminary will celebrate the opening of its new refectory and multipurpose facility on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.
Officials from the seminary, the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce, local elected officials, students, alumni and other special guests will gather at 4 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the large, new, front plaza area of the building, followed by a reception and an open house.
The public is invited and informal tours of this new 9,500-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility will be given.
President-elect Dr. Vergel Lattimore said, “This all-important new center of campus life has already brought new energy to the seminary, and we hope it will also become a new special event and meeting space opportunity for the entire Rowan/ Salisbury area.”
In 2011 the seminary began a $2.8 million fundraising effort for of the new facility and construction began in late fall of 2012.
“We are quite proud that the generous support of our Board of Trustees, loyal alumni, many friends and local, regional and national foundations made this much needed facility become possible,” Lattimore said. “The building is paid for and we have a relatively modest amount left to raise to pay for new furnishings that this beautiful new facility deserves.”

Hood Theological Seminary, located at 1810 Lutheran Synod Drive, is a graduate and professional school accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada. It is sponsored by the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church and approved by the University Senate of the United Methodist Church.
