According to a tweet from Rowan-Salisbury Schools, West Rowan Middle School is closed today due to a power outage.
The school lost power during Friday’s winter weather, and power was restored Saturday around 7 p.m.
“Then sometime during the night, the transformer blew,” said Rowan-Salisbury School Public Information Officer Rita Foil.
Duke Energy crews are working to restore power, but said it would be the “better part of the day” before power is restored, according to Foil.
The school began the day on a three-hour delay, but after looking after several different variables, it was decided it would be best to cancel classes.
West Rowan Middle students will have to make up the day. School officials have not yet decided when.
