Ingold wins ‘Will Run for Food 5K’

Garrett Ingold won the second annual “Will Run for Food 5K” on Saturday morning in 17 minutes and 43 seconds.
The top female runner was Susan Livengood in 25 minutes and 59 seconds.
Adam Cornelius was second in 18:44, followed by Bobby Aswell at 19:46.
The runner-up female was Hannah Hawkins at 26:58, followed by Rustyn Orbison at 27:07.
Top masters male was Richard Ellis in 21:17, and the fastest masters female was Elizabeth Kimberly in 29:29.
“Cloudy gave way to sunny, and the weather and the large number of participants warmed my heart,” Race director Carla Kluttz said. “All proceeds from the event go to help Centenary Methodist Church pack a large number of meals for feeding the hungry through Servants with a Heart.”
Bobby Aswell of Cornelius ran his second race of the morning, and said, “I ran a 5K this morning in Statesville, then came down here to do this one. This was a top quality event and a lot of fun to run and help out a good cause.”
Lydia Richmond and Jolene Blankenship used the 5K to kick off their own challenge. Richmond said, “We are going to run 14 in ’14. My sister and I are going to run 14 races this year, and this was the first one. Everything went well.”

The United Methodist Women of First Methodist Church in Salisbury will a 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, March 1. The 5K (3.1 miles) will start at 9 a.m. with the mile fun run following at 9:50 a.m. City Park will be the site for both events. All proceeds will support UMW Missions.
The unique race course will include three laps around City Park, plus 4/10ths more. This run/walk offers a rare opportunity for spectators to see the participants multiple times on the course.
Awards will be given in 15 age groups for both male and female in the 5K. Special awards will go to the top three finishers and the top three masters finishers. Each participant will get a commemorative dri-fit T-shirt. All participants in the fun run will get a medal and t-shirt.
