Murdock scores 42 for Eagles

The North Hills boys basketball team won 71-62 against Kings Mountain’s Grace Academy.
Leonard Murdock scored 42 points for the Eagles. Chris Taylor added 16.
Murdock shot 13-for-22 from the floor, went 15-for-21 at the foul line and hit one 3-pointer.
Taylor had 15 rebounds. Murdock and Austin Patterson grabbed 11 rebounds each.
Murdock had eight steals, while Taylor had five.
A.L. Brown’s girls lost to West Charlotte 64-51 in MECKA play on Monday,
Kyla Downs scored 16 points for the Wonders. and Talethia Alexander made three 3-pointers.
• Chantel Williams scored 21 points to lead Mallard Creek to a 56-50 MECKA win against Robinson.
East Rowan’s jayvee boys won against Central Cabarrus on Monday.
East (14-4) won its ninth game in a row.
The Mustangs had a l team effort with Datavian Davis and Lucas Morton scoring 12 points each.
Logan Shuping scored 11, and Corbin Elliott added six.
The Mustangs’ last game is scheduled for Friday at home against South Rowan.
Catawba athletics today have been postponed.
Livingstone already has postponed Wednesday’s scheduled basketball games with Fayetteville State to Monday.
The FCCA Green Dragons lost two games and tied another in Burlington.
Scores were 3-2, 7-5 and 3-3.
Scoring for the Dragons were Ben Childress (five goals), Maddox Goodnight three) and Colin Donaldson (two).
Leading the defensive effort were Ben Sweet, Hank Webb and Will Webb.
Temple senior Shi-Heria Shipp (Salisbury) was named to the American Athletic Conference and Philadelphia Big 5 women’s basketball Honor Rolls on Monday following the Owls’ two wins last week.
Shipp averaged 11.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. She also had seven assists and four steals while shooting 55 percent (11-20) from the field.
In her return to the starting line-up in the 79-46 win at Houston last Wednesday, Shipp recorded her fourth double-double of the season (fifth of her career) with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
She shot 70 percent (7-of-10) from the field and dished out four assists.
In Sunday’s 64-51 win over Memphis, Shipp grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and scored eight points.
She also had three assists, two steals, and a block in 26 minutes of action.
Shipp has played in all 23 games with 16 starts, including starting nods in both wins on the week. She is third in team scoring with 9.6 ppg and second in rebounding with 6.9 rpg. She shoots 45 percent from the field and 67 percent from the line.
The honors are the third for Shipp this season.
She also earned Honor Roll accolades from the American and the Big 5 on Nov. 11 and Dec. 16.

League age is as of April 30, 2014.
