North Rowan and Salisbury athletes performed well on Saturday morning in the 1A-2A indoor track state championship meet held in Winston-Salem.
Burlington Cummings won the girls title and has won six in a row.
Salisbury’s girls placed eighth with 18 points. Jaleesa Smoot placed third in the 500 (1:20.77) and also was third in the 300 (42.38 seconds). Cheyenne Gloster took third in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 9 1/2 inches.
North Rowan’s girls tied for 20th with eight points. Those points came from Payton Russell’s second-place finish in the 300. She ran 42.08.
• North Rowan’s boys placed 12th with 14 points. All the points came in the shot put where Alexis Archie took second (48-6 1/2) and Shane Parker placed third (48-1 1/2).
North Brunswick won the boys team championship.
1A and 2A athletes competed separately from 3A this season for the first time. Marvin Ridge’s boys and girls won 3A titles on Friday.
Carson’s boys placed ninth with 21 points. Andrew Hower won the high jump, MyQuon Stout was third in the shot put, and Zachary Marchinko was fourth in the 3200.
West Rowan’s boys were 14th with 11 points. Raywkon Torrence was third in the long jump, while Chris Patterson was fourth in the triple jump.
East Rowan’s girls were 27th with seven points. Brittany Small was third in the high jump for six, and Taylor Kirk won the wheel chair shot put for a point.
