Livingstone’s men’s basketball team has been awesome at home and is starting to play better on the road.
The Blue Bears beat Shaw 83-76 at Raleigh’s Spaulding Gym on Saturday.
It was CIAA win and a Southern Divison win for the Blue Bears. LC is 5-1 in the division.
Guard Mark Thomas poured in 36 points to lead the Blue Bears. Thomas shot 10-for-17 from the field and 11-for-14 from the foul line. He made five 3-pointers.
Jody Hill had three 3s and 13 points. Eric Dubose went 8-for-8 on free throws and scored 12.
Livingstone’s defense forced 20 turnovers.
A three-point play by Thomas with 10:44 remaining put the Blue Bears ahead to stay.
Larry Richardson scored 25 for Shaw.

Livingstone’s women pulled out an 83-77 overtime decision at Shaw on Saturday afternoon.
Cierra York scored 24 points, Tiffany Evans had 23, and Ashley Walker added 18 to spark the Blue Bears (12-10, 7-5).
Livingstone evened its division record at 3-3.
York made two free throws with five seconds left for a two-point lead, but a jump shot by Shaw’s Diamond Mitchell sent the game to OT.
Livingstone took the lead for good in the overtime session when Taylor Daniels made a layup with 2:43 remaining.

Catawba’s women’s basketball team lost 85-61 at Tusculum on Saturday.
Jada Huntley scored 13 points to lead the Indians (10-10, 8-8 SAC). Mallary Clay scored 12, and Chloe Bully had 11.
Tusculum (5-15, 5-11) had a good shooting day, making almost 50 percent, while Catawba shot 35 percent.
Maleyn Cutshaw and Nequoia Anderson scored 20 points each for the Pioneers.

Wingate won 91-73 against Anderson in SAC action on Saturday. Former Statesville star Janitsha Williams scored 21 for the Bulldogs.
Catawba’s baseball team lost to Florida Southern 2-1 on Saturday at Newman Park.
The Indians lost the three-game series two games to one.
Catawba (1-5) scored in the second inning when Cameron Beard’s single scored Keaton Hawks.
Catawba stranded two in the eighth and Hawks was robbed of a hit in the sixth that would’ve tied the game.
T.J. Wharton had two hits for Catawba.
Craig Brooks (0-2) took the loss despite pitching well for six innings. He struck out six and allowed three hits.
Catawba opened with a 4-2, 6-0 doubleheader sweep of Lander in Greenwood, S.C.
Sydney Hyder paced Catawba’s offense in the 4-2 win with two hits and two runs. Carley Tysinger was the winning pitcher in relief, striking out four and allowing one hit in four innings.
Emily B. Hunyecutt pitched a shutout in the nightcap. Emily D. Honeycutt had a key hit. Katherine Shumaker had a two-run double. Gina Gerone had a run-scoring double.
Both Catawba tennis teams swept Johnson C. Smith 9-0 on Friday.
In the 3A state swim meet on Saturday, South Rowan’s girls were 17th with 44 points.
In the 3A boys meet, Carson was 26th with 18 points, South was 35th with six points, and East Rowan was 41st with two points.
South divers Madyson Campbell (8th), Brittany Luckey (10th) and Katie Carlton (13th)
South’s 200 medley relay girls team was 16th in 2:02.28. That was Faith Casswell, Leslie Franks, Casey Pruitt and Taylor Kluttz.
South’s girls were ninth in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:47.03. That was Nicole Mauldin, Kluttz, Sabrina Broadway and Franks.
Franks was 15th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.76.
Carson’s boys were ninth in the 200 frestyle relay in 1:37.73. That unit was John Patella, Henry Brown, Ryan Tyrney and Heath Mitchem.
South’s boys were 14th in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:39.70. That was Tyler Fuller, Steven Lyons, Alex Reed and Reagan May.
East’s boys were 16th in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:37.41. That was Charles Goff, Nathan Leazer, Caleb Beaver amd Jason Troutman.
• Chapel Hill’s boys and Marvin Ridge’s girls won 3A titles on Saturday.
• Charlotte Catholic’s girls and Cary Green Hope’s boys won 4A titles on Friday.
• The N.C. School of Science & Math boys and the Raleigh Charter girls won 1A-2A titles on Thursday.
A.L. Brown’s Cameron McKnight was 10th in the long jump in Saturday’s 4A state championships with an effort of 20 feet, 3 inches.
• Davie’s Colin Joldersma was ninth in the long jump in 20-6. Elaina Paassero scored a point for the Davie girls by clearing 9 feet in the pole vault for eighth place.
Host Eden Morehead downed Fred T. Foard 33-28 for the 3A state championship on Saturday.
• Host Newton-Conover won the 2A state championship on Saturday with a 44-15 win against Dixon.
• Host Winston-Salem Parkland won the 4A state championship on Saturday with a 30-24 win against Fayetteville Jack Britt.
• Mitchell won the 1A title by beating host Chatham Central 36-30.
Kelly Chrismon scored 10 points and MccKenzie Rogers had seven in A.L. Brown’s 73-36 loss to Mallard Creek’s girls on Friday.
• Central Cabarrus freshman Mahaley Holit scored 34 points in the Vikings’ 68-58 SPC win over the Cox Mill girls on Friday.
Peyton Sell scored 21 points in Davie’s 72-70 loss to Parkland in CPC boys action on Friday. Nic Starnes had 16 points for the War Eagles. Blaise Bennett and Heath Slabach scored 11 each.
Jejven Davis hit a game-winning jumper for the Mustangs.
Southeast’s seventh-grade girls lost to Erwin.
DeeDee Grant scored 20 points for the Eagles, while Nancy Gamewell scored 10 and Kaitlyn Honeycutt had seven.
• Jarius Bates had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead China Grove;s boys to a 53-18 win against Corriher-Lipe. Jeron Hines had 10 points and six steals. Dylan Johnson had eight points and 15 rebounds. Davis Tadlock scored six points, and Caleb Weaver had five rebounds.
Bobby Cain had seven points for the Yellow Jackets.

Salisbury Academy
Salisbury Academy’s varsity boys won 31-18 against Statesville Christian in the first round of the CCISAA tournament. Ben Coulter had 16 points and eight rebounds. Malik Holmes had six points, 10 rebounds andf vive blocks.
• Salisbury Academy lost to Sacred Heart 38-18. Coulter had nine points and eight rebounds for the Jaguards. Sam Combs scored six points.

Jayvee basketball
Malon Herron scored 16 points and Brenden Westbrook had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Carson jayvee boys to a 54-49 win against Northwest Cabarrus (54-49).

hina Grove youth baseball and softball registrations are through Feb. 22 at Dale’s Sporting Goods in China Grove.
