Good Citizens of the Month for January at Bostian Elementary School
The staff of Bostian Elementary would like to recognize the following students for standing out as exemplary citizens for this month. These students have all gone above and beyond what is expected of them at school.

Georgia Southern University recently named 1,149 students as 2013 fall semester president’s list honorees.
Cameron Feriante, majoring in chemistry, from Granite Quarry has earned a spot on the list for excellence in academics.
To be eligible for the president’s list, a student must have at least a 4.0 grade point average and carry a minimum of 12 hours for the semester.
Taylor Woods, daughter of Michele Tolbert of Salisbury and Allen Woods of Charlotte, has been named to the dean’s list for her scholastic performance at Cottey College during the fall 2013 semester.
In order to be on the dean’s list, the student’ grade-point average must be between 3.5 and 3.74 on a 4.0 scale, with a minimum of 12 hours completed.
Chowan University officially announced the fall 2013 semester’s dean’s list honorees. Dean’s list winners have accomplished a grade point average between 3.25 and 3.79 for the semester. This distinction for full-time students will become part of their official record.
Chowan University proudly recognizes the following students for their achievements:
Anterrio Evans, sophomore, exercise science and Elonga Manseka, freshman, criminal justice, both of Kannapolis; Torie Spears, senior, criminal justice, Salisbury.
Benjamin Charles DeCelle of Rockwell received a political science degree from the University of North Carolina Pembroke during winter commencement.
Western Carolina University has announced its graduation and dean’s lists for fall semester 2013.
The university recently conferred degrees on approximately 670 students who completed their studies during the fall semester. A total of 223 undergraduate students received academic honors, with 53 graduating summa cum laude (with highest honors), 102 graduating magna cum laude (with high honors), and 68 graduating cum laude (with honors).
Graduates from Salisbury include Jerry A Goodnight, Bachelor of Science, history; Kayla Michelle Overcash, Bachelor of Science, forensic science; Robert Todd Taylor, Bachelor of Science, criminal justice; Casey Lynn Wellmon, Bachelor of Science, nursing, summa cum laude.

Shive Elementary had more than 50 entries in their Science Fair held on Jan. 16. The first place winner was Bryson Shive with a project called “Why Waste The Money.”
Second place went to Chelsea Skeens, whose project title was “Sour Apples.” Third place was a tie for Ali Abbey, with a project titled “A Race of Viscosity,” and Isabella Basinger, whose project title was “Survivor — The Skittles Survival Challenge.” These four winners will advance to the 2014 Rowan Salisbury Science Fair which will be held on Feb. 18.
Shive had many outstanding projects, so several were recognized as honorable mentions. Those winners were Kiersten Drye, JT Teeter, David Jordan, Gage Sienerth, Lexi Collins, Paityn Butler, Haley Wright, Dawson Goodman, Hunter Hill, Jaxon Mastranunzio and Preston Baz.
Alee Johnson of Salisbury, a member of the class of 2015 at Washington and Lee University, has earned dean’s list status for the recently ended winter term 2013.
Dean’s list status at Washington and Lee represents a term grade-average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.
The following students were recognized as Explorers of the Week during January for demonstrating excellent behavior throughout the school at Overton Elementary School:
Kindergarten — Leanna Ford, Kyrie Hairston and Chanse Bost.
First grade — Kyra Roberts, Tierney Wilkins and Shamara Litaker.
Second grade — Kiera Avery, Brandy Niles and Cheyenne Browning.
Third grade — Luis Avilez, Elijah Foreman and Selena Jones.
Fourth grade — Zachary Garner, Emily Frick and Abby Campion.
Fifth grade — Andrew Yow, Gabe Bemus and Jamie Javis.
Congratulations also to the students who demonstrated positive behavior on buses 170 and 180 and were recognized as Buses of the Week and to the students on bus 170 who were recognized as Bus of the Month.
Ross Oden of Salisbury has been named to the University of South Carolina Upstate fall 2013 chancellor’s list. To be eligible for the chancellor’s list, students must earn a 4.0 and be enrolled in at least 12 course hours.
