KANNAPOLIS — Ei Solution Works, a research and development company in Kannapolis that manufactures skin care products, has laid off 11 employees, an official said.
Formerly known as Harmony Labs, Ei consolidated the first and second shifts earlier this month, cutting 11 positions, said Darlene Burton, vice president for human resources.
Burton said the company eliminated its second shift to improve productivity and now has 204 employees. A small group of employees with specialized skills continue to work on second shift, she said.
Burton said she does not anticipate any additional layoffs.
Located in north Kannapolis, Ei makes liquid, semi-solid and powder skin care and animal health products for a range of brands, both over-the-counter and prescription use. Product Quest Manufacturing, based in Daytona, Fla., acquired Ei in 2013.
“For us, the blending of Ei’s facility, people and product breadth is a great match for us,” Burton said.
Product Quest makes over-the-counter cosmetics and sunscreen for both contract customers and private labels, she said. Ei performs research and development to come up with skin care formulas.
