SALISBURY — The city will present plans for a 58-space parking lot behind Integro Technologies when the Historic Preservation Commission holds a called meeting next week.
Requesting permission from the commission is the first step toward building the parking lot, which the city promised Integro when the company moved its headquarters from North Lee Street to a new $3.2 million, 41,800-square-foot building at 301 S. Main St.
The estimated cost of the lot was not available Wednesday from the city.
In July, Mayor Paul Woodson put the ballpark figure of parking lot construction at $1,000 per space.
The Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Council Chambers at the City Hall, 217 S. Main St.
The city will request construction of a public parking lot with a first phase of asphalt. The lot will include 58 parking spaces and bicycle parking. Future phases could include a parking deck.
Integro will use the lot during the day on a contract basis, and the lot would be available for public use after business hours.
The city last year agreed to build 52 new parking spaces for Integro and provide 160 parking spaces for the school central office, which the Rowan-Salisbury School Board and City Council wanted to build next to Integro.
But a majority of Rowan County commissioners do not support constructing the central office at 329 S. Main St.
