South Rowan’s girls finished second in the SPC swimming championships held on Friday at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center.
Cox Mill won with 608 points.
South had 311 points. East Rowan was seventh with 141, Carson was eighth with 101, and West Rowan was ninth with 55.
South’s Leslie Franks won the 100 breaststroke in a school-record time and also finished third in the 200 freestyle race.
South’s Faith Casswell, Franks, Casey Pruitt and Nicole Mauldin placed second in the 200 medley relay in a school-record time.
South’s Taylor Kluttz, Samantha Kennerly, Sabrina Broadway and Pruitt placed third in the 200 free relay.
South’s 400 free relay team of Mauldin, Casswell, Kluttz and Franks placed second.
Boys
Concord won the boys competition with 502 points.
South was fourth with 291 points. East was fifth with 220, Carson was seventh with 156.5. and West was ninth with 27.
South’s Stetson Johnston was third in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke.
South’s Nathan Shorter was second in the 100 breaststroke.
East’s Jason Troutman was second in the 100 back and third in the 100 fly.
East’s 200 free relay team of Nathan Leazer, Wyatt Zander, Adams Drake and Charles Goff placed second.

East Rowan won 42-33 at Cox Mill on Friday to stay unbeaten in SPC wrestling.
It was the first league loss for Cox Mill.
East (12-2, 5-0) got pins from Logan Haas, Luke Miller, Wyatt Blume and Shiheem Saunders.
Jef Burrell won by forfeit. Wesley Porter won by disqualification.
Sam Cornacchione and Grant Hoffner won decisions.
East wrestles in the Monroe Duals today. East wrestles Carson at home on Tuesday and takes on Concord on Senior Night next Friday.
• South Rowan won 36-33 at Northwest Cabarrus in SPC wrestling on Friday.
North Rowan hosts Winston-Salem Prep tonight.

North lost both varsity games in a doubleheader at W-S Prep on Jan. 4.

• West Charlotte’s boys overwhelmed A.L. Brown 93-38 in MECKA action on Friday.

• A.L. Brown’s girls lost 73-63 at West Charlotte.
Aitana Grant scored 20 for the Wonders. Mackenzie Rodgers scored nine.
East Rowan’s boys won 49-39 against Cox Mill on Friday.
Datavion Davis (14 points), Corbin Elliott (12), Lucas Morton (10) and Logan Shuping (10) scored in double figures for the Mustangs.
Elliott had 12 rebounds. Bravon Goodlett had eight assists.
East is 7-4 and takes on Carson on Tuesday.
Catawba’s teams are on the road at Mars Hill today for a SAC doubleheader that begins at 2 p.m.
Catawba’s women (8-5, 6-3) are still in contention in the SAC. Chloe Bully needs 10 points for 1,000.
Catawba’s men (4-9, 4-5) will be looking for a season sweep of the Lions and have beaten Mars Hill seven straight times.
Tyrece Little needs five blocks to become Catawba’s all-time leader.
• Livingstone is home tonight against Shaw for a CIAA doubleheader that begins at 5:30 p.m.
Livingstone’s men will be trying to snap a three-game losing skid.

Sacred Heart’s jayvee girls won 14-3 against Salisbury Academy.
Alyssa Lopez scored six points for the Dolphins.
• The Sacred Heart jayvee boys topped Salisbury Acdaemy 28-27 on Blaine Shellhorn’s free throw.
Patrick Taylor led the Dolphins with nine points.
Shellhorn and Julian Malnar scored seven points each, and Sean Archer had six.
George Fisher scored eight for the Jaguars.
• Sacred Heart’s varsity girls beat the Jaguars 34-19.
Mary Sobataka scored 12 points for the Dolphins. Julia Honeycutt had nine points and four assists. Leah Wyrick had eight points and 14 rebounds.
• Sacred Heart’s varsity boys won 56-33 against Salisbury Academy.
Michael Childress had 15 points and 15 assists for the Dolphins. Will Taylor had 19 points. Jack Fisher had eight points and 11 rebounds. Eric Turnbull and Henry Holman scored six points each.
Ben Coulter scored 12 points for the Jaguars. Mark Holmes had nine.
Sacred Heart’s varsity boys play at home on Tuesday against St. John’s and on Wednesday against Park Ridge.
The Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department is taking registrations for girls basketball, ages 7-15, and coed basketball, ages 5 and 6. Cost for these leagues is $30 per person.

Practices will begin the end of January. Games are in February and March.

Registration is open now through Feb. 4. Cost for the church league is $425 per team and teams provide own jerseys.
