RALEIGH (AP) — North Carolina officials say thousands of current and retired state workers are still having problems with their State Health Plan coverage.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reports that state officials acknowledged Thursday that more than 100,000 state employees don’t have the insurance cards needed for medical care.
State Treasurer Janet Cowell’s office oversees the insurance plan that covers 660,000 state workers and retirees. The treasurer says the cards will be mailed soon.
The state is also sending a letter explaining a billing glitch that resulted in confusion when health insurance coverage wasn’t deducted from pension checks. Cowell spokesman Schorr Johnson says the problem mostly affected retirees with dependents and did not affect coverage.
