SALISBURY — Next month, City Council will consider banning smoking in public parks.
If the ban passes, Salisbury would be one of about a dozen cities and counties in North Carolina to prohibit tobacco use in parks.
The Salisbury Parks and Recreation Advisory Board has proposed the ban as part of an anti-smoking initiative by the Rowan County Health Department, which won a grant that would pay for no smoking signs in all city parks.
City Council set a public hearing for Jan. 7 to take public comment on the proposed ban.
