Authorities say a Salisbury woman robbed the Woodforest National Bank inside Walmart Monday afternoon, nine hours after she made an inquiry earlier that morning.
Tara Jean Vaughn, 41, whose address is listed as the streets of Salisbury, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. She remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.
Salisbury Police say Vaughn went to the bank, where she has an account, around 8:30 a.m. asking about starter checks. She gave the branch employee her name. The employee told Vaughn they were not open yet and asked her to return later. Authorities said she returned around 5 p.m. and spoke with the same employee, who remembered Vaughn from her earlier visit,
Vaughn told the employee “I don’t want to do this, but give me your money. I have a gun and I don’t want to shoot you.”
She then placed her purse on the counter and told the employee to hurry up because she had to go. The employee gave her the money and Vaughn left the bank headed toward the food aisles. She left in a red Dodge minivan. She was arrested in East Spencer Monday night.
Vaughn has been previously convicted of larceny, assault on a public official, shoplifting, resisting arrest, common law robbery, larceny of a motor vehicle, communicating threats, driving while license revoked and malicious conduct by a prisoner.
