A Salisbury woman remains in the county jail after authorities say she removed several pens used as smoking devices from her bra following a Tuesday traffic stop.
Amber Nicole Austin, 24, of the 100 block of Geiger Lane, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, resist, delay, obstruct an officer and impaired driving, all misdemeanors. She was issued a $1,500 bond.
Her Chevrolet HHR was stopped by a police officer late Tuesday at the intersection of South Oakhurst and Independence drives. A Salisbury Police officer approached the vehicle from the passenger’s side and while another officer began approaching the car from the driver’s side, Austin tried to get out of the car. She was cursing while unbuckling her seatbelt, a report said.
An officer noted a strong odor of alcohol coming from Austin, who was unsteady on her feet. The officer asked her to walk to the back of the car. The officer held onto Austin’s arm to steady her and that’s when Austin became loud, irate and began yelling.
She yelled that “some (expletive) stole her drugs.”
When an officer tried to handcuff Austin she jerked her hand away. She also told the officer she was sober after he informed her she was being charged with driving while impaired. Upon searching Austin, she had several pens, a plastic tube and empty pens inside her bra. She refused a Breathalyzer test, but was taken to the hospital to have blood drawn.
