Better coverage at a lower price
While the hiccups associated with the roll-out of the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) were very frustrating, my wife and I will now finally have affordable health insurance.
Prior to this law, we have had to rely on retiree health insurance from a very prominent Charlotte-based employer that in 2014 would have cost us nearly $1,400 a month for simply catastrophic coverage with individual deductibles of $6,000. Thanks to the subsidy for which we qualified, our new monthly premium is now under $500 for far better coverage. Even without the subsidy, the coverage provided under the new law is far superior to the coverage provided by my past employer for the same premium.
It is upsetting to see so many people attack our president and the Affordable Care Act without having much direct knowledge of it besides the half-truths and blatant lies that are dispensed by the media and political TV ads. Even if you didn’t vote for our current president, you really can’t afford to ignore the new health-care law — especially if you are older but not yet 65.
So please do yourselves a favor and look into the new law with open eyes — you may be surprised what you find.

Prayers for Marco
Our prayers are with shooting victim Marco Kauffman, his wife family and the doctors treating him.
The assailants didn’t have to shoot Marco. I pray the police capture all of those responsible — and they will. God knows your hearts and where you are.
How can the attorney defend the suspects? What can he say? The attorneys and judges need integrity and ethics. The police work so hard. I prayer for them also.
Those doing evil are so brave when there are more than one of them.

Regarding the Dec. 11 article “A final ride”:
What a moving article, honoring a great man, Mr. Charles Rufty. It inspires me to be a better person and makes one think, “What kind of legacy will I leave?”
