Young women, coaches and runners throughout North Carolina will converge in Rowan County on Saturday, Dec. 14, for the Fall Girls on the Run 5k at Catawba College, beginning in Shuford Stadium at 9 a.m.
The event is sponsored by Iredell Health System and represents the grand achievement for youth participating in the Girls on the Run program. Children, schools, parents and community members have been providing the curriculum to third- through eighth-graders since September to prepare for the final 3.1 miles this month.
Girls on the Run inspires kids to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum, which creatively integrates running. The programs instill self-esteem through health education, life skills development, mentoring relationships and physical training.
Volunteers, participants and sponsors are still needed to ensure that the 5k event represents a special day for young people from Rowan and Iredell Counties.
