A Pearl Street man is in jail today after authorities say he attacked his mother following a violent argument overnight at her Kesler Street home.
Alonzo “Booger” Ivery Gibson Jr., 38, of the 100 block of Pearl Street is in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $13,000 secured bond. Salisbury Police charged him with assault inflicting serious injury, breaking and entering and injury to personal property all of which are misdemeanors.
Police were called to a home on Kesler Street shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday where they discovered Gibson sitting inside his car with his 2-year-old son two houses away from his mother’s home. But investigators say Gibson got into an argument with his mother earlier.
He went outside the home and she locked the door, but he was back inside shortly after kicking in the door.
A police report said Gibson went to the kitchen and retrieved a large knife that he began swinging at his mother. Gibson then threw the knife toward his mother and it stuck in a wall. Gibson grabbed his mother by the throat and began choking her. He removed the knife and stuck it into the wall again.
He was cut at some point and smeared his blood on the wall, a report said.
Gibson let his mother go just before she blacked out, the report said. Gibson then began breaking items in the house including a vase and radio.
The 2-year-old son was placed in the care of his mother after Gibson was arrested.
According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Gibson has been convicted of drug possession, resisting arrest, habitual felon, larceny, driving while license revoked and shoplifting.
Gibson was just arrested and charged in July with a 2012 assault in which a teen was hit in the face. In April, Gibson was accused of cutting a man with a steak knife.
