Livingstone’s men’s basketball team stayed unbeaten with a 76-72 win at Erskine on Saturday.
The Blue Bears got clutch free-throw shooting from Jody Hill and Mark Thomas down the stretch to hang on against the Flying Fleet (3-3).
Livingstone withstood seven 3-pointers and 33 points by Erskine’s Roderick Perkins.
Jake Haslam hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 for the Fleet.
Hill led the Blue Bears with 20 points. Christian Henry had 18, Anthony Welch scored 15, and Thomas had 12.
Livingstone’s women’s basketball team lost 73-53 to Belmont Abbey at New Trent Gym on Saturday.
The Blue Bears (3-3) went 0-for-15 from the 3-point line.
Ashley Walker scored 16 to lead Livingstone.
McKenzie Owen had 19 for the Crusaders (4-2).
Catawba golfer Matt Hardman carded a rare double-eagle two on the 556-yard No. 13 hole at the Country Club of Salisbury.
Hardman holed a 3-wood from 255 yards.
He was playing with Zach Griffis and Logan Ellis.
• Catawba’s Madison Kennedy (Salisbury) made a hole-in-one on No. 14 at the Country Club of Salisbury.
Kennedy hit a 7-iron on the 135-yard hole. She was playing with Alex Lee, Rob Sawyer and Ryan Szalay.
• Guy Roberts of Salisbury shot 72 in the first round of the Carolinas Net Amateur Championship in Pinehurst.
South Rowan swept a tri-meet Friday at the Corriher YMCA. South’s boys scored 156 points to defeat North Rowan (70) and Gray Stone (40). South’s girls won with 159 points. Gray Stone was second with 89. North scoerd 16.
Winners for South’s boys were Dustin Jenkins (200 free), Steven Lyons (200 IM), Stetson Johnston (100 fly, 100 back), and Nathan Shorter (100 breast).
The Raiders swept the relays. Andrew Perry, Lyons, Johnston and Tyler Fuller took the 200 medley relay; Reagan May, Lyons, Fuller and Jenkins took the 200 free relay, while Johnston, Jenkins, Blade Blumenthal and Perry won the 400 free relay.
South’s May and North’s Corey Fries tied for the win the 50 free, with Fries also taking home a win in the 100 free. Also shining for North was Cody Dollarhide with a runaway win in the 500 free.
Swimmer of the night for South’s girls was Leslie Franks, who won two events (200 free, 100 breast) in school record times, while also taking part in two winning relays.
Other individual winners for the Raiders were Nicole Mauldin (50 free, 100 fly) and Faith Casswell (100 free, 100 back). The medley relay of Casswell, Franks, Mauldin and Taylor Kluttz won in a school record time. The same foursome teamed up for a win in the 400 freestyle relay. Samantha Kennerly, Sabrina Broadway, Kylie Labbe and Casey Pruitt won the 200 free relay.
Leading North’s girls was Rebekah Horning, who took second place in the 200 free and third in the 50 free.
Rockwell Christian’s boys basketball team won 61-51 vs. Calvary. Nathan Hoehman led the Chargers with 23 points. Joel Patil had 12.
Austin Teodorvici scored 13 for the Rockwell jayvees in a 31-26 loss, and Michael Hoehman scored eight.
Rockwell is home Monday at 5 and 6:30.

East YMCA
The Saleeby-Fisher YMCA, East Rowan Branch, is registering players for a boys basketball league that has weekday games and practices.
This league teaches basketball skills and fundamentals along with YMCA core values.
The league is for grades 2-8 (ages 7 to 14).
Registration is through Dec. 21. Practice begins Jan. 6. The season begins Jan. 20.

Middle school hoops
Sacred Heart’s varsity boys defeated Forsyth Country Day 50-42 in Winston Salem.
The Dolphins were led by Will Taylor with 19 points and Michael Childress with 14 points. Forward Eric Turnbull added eight points and Jack Fisher finished with seven points and 11 rebounds. Keegan Dillion, Henry Holman, and Melvin Bonilla sparked the defense.

College soccer
Wingate’s women won the Southeast Regional by beating Belmont Abbey 2-0.

College volleyball
Catawba Valley Community College lost to Grand Rapids CC (Mich.) in the national tournament.
Aimee Cloninger (Carson) had 11 kills and 10 digs. Tiffany Brooks (South Rowan) had four kills.
The Bucs finished 39-2.

• Cox Mill’s boys won 72-71 against Robinson on Friday.
Derius Johnson scored 19 for the Chargers, and Matt Morgan had 18.
Jordan McKenzie scored 19 for the Bullodgs. Freshman Lavar Batts had 17.

The Kannapolis Intimidators announced the addition of Scott Brumfiel as director of sales.

College football
No. 18 Carson-Newman (10-2) opened the first round of the Division II playoffs against a familiar foe Saturday afternoon at Burke-Tarr Stadium. The Eagles jumped out to a 21-0 lead and went on to beat Newberry 37-27.
Corey Washington had two long kick returns for touchdowns for Newberry, but Carson-Newman rolled up 544 total yards.
Carson-Newman will play at Lenoir-Rhyne in the second round next Saturday.
