Broome sweeps golf honors

Charlie Broome made a hole-in-one at Corbin Hills on Tuesday.
Broome used a 7-iron from the gold tees on the 110-yard No. 13 hole.

• In girls games on Tuesday, Robinson beat Northwest 42-34; West Charlotte beat Butler 68-50, and Weddington topped Central Cabarrus 82-40.
Rockwell’s varsity boys won 33-29 at home against Bailey Grove of Asheboro.
Nathan Hoehman led the Chargers with 12 points, while Micah Eagle scored seven.
Rockwell hosts Calvary of King at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
Catawba golf coach Sam Gealy announced the signing of three athletes — Alexis Kershaw (Ledford), Annika Winebarger (Elkin) and Victoria Hedrick (Central Davidson).
Kershaw helped Ledford to three straight 3A titles.
Winebarger was individual champion at the recent 2A state tournament.
Hedrick tied for 10th in this year’s 3A state tournament.
Pfeiffer’s women won 69-66 in overtime against Johnson C. Smith at Merner Gym on Tuesday.
The Falcons (1-3) got 25 points from Alexis Stallard and 19 points and 11 rebounds from Carter Williams.
Amy Steller (Davie) scored seven points for Pfeiffer, all from the foul line.
Micah Johnson, a Chicago White Sox prospect who played for the Kannapolis Intimidators most of the season was named to the Topps Class A All-Star team.
Johnson, 23, led the minors with 83 steals, 61 in Kannapolis.
This past weekend The Hurley YMCA Warriors competed in the North Carolina USA Track and Field Junior Olympic Cross Country National Qualifier @ Hagan Stone Park in Pleasant Garden, NC.

The Warriors will be competing in the Footlocker South Regional Cross Country Championships at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, NC on November 30th.

The following Warriors have qualified to go to the USATF Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships in San Antonio, TX on December 14th: Eli Julian, Abigail Calvert, Emma Calvert, Noah Julian, Parker Westbrook, Matthew Burroughs, Julianna Evans and Dagan Williams.
