The prep basketball season gets under way Wednesday with East Rowan playing at Mount Pleasant.
On Thursday, South Rowan is at A.L. Brown.
On Friday, East hosts South Davidson, and Salisbury hosts North Hills.
The Post’’s annual basketball edition will appear on Wednesday and will include stories on Division I signees Brielle Blaire and Karleigh Wike.
The NCHSAA announced the addition of another class championship for indoor track.
Instead of 4A having a separate meet and 1A/2A/3A competing in a meet, there will be three titles decided this season with 4A, 3A and 1A/2A championships being decided.
Championships will be held in Winston-Salem on Feb. 8-9.
West Rowan Middle’s boys won 49-31 against Erwin.
Caleb Mauldin had 21 points, 19 rebounds and three blocks for the Bulldogs. Cole Myers had 10 rebounds. Malcolm Ingram had seven points, and Mykal Berger scored six for the Bulldogs (2-0).
Cole Perry scored 16 for Erwin (1-1).
West plays Corriher-Lipe Thursday.
•In a girls game, Southeast won 33-16 against Corriher-Lipe.
Olivia Gabriel scored 11 for the Patriots. Shaleah Jolly and Taylor Hairston had six points each.
Sacred Heart hosted its annual three-day Tip-Off Basketball Tournament recently.
Competing with Sacred Heart were Forsyth Country Day, Winston-Salem Christian, Salisbury Academy and North Hills.
• Forsyth Country Day won 9-7 against Sacred Heart in the jayvee girls championship game. Salisbury Academy beat North Hills in the consolation game.
• Sacred Heart defeated Forsyth Country Day 39-24 in the jayvee boys championship game. Winston-Salem Christian topped Salisbury Academy in the consolation game.
• Sacred Heart won 23-20 against Salisbury Academy in the varsity girls championship game. Winston-Salem Christian defeated North Hills in the consolation game.
• Winston-Salem Christian won 37-33 against Sacred in a well-played boys varsity boys championship game. Salisbury Academy defeated North Hills in the consolation game.
Tusculum quarterback Bo Cordell, Mars Hill linebacker Sammy Siasia and Newberry punt returner Corey Washington were the SAC players of the week.
The FCCA Green Dragons won twice before losing to the eventual champion in the Lake Norman Fall Classic.
Ben Childress, Maddox Goodnight, Oscar Enciso and Colin Donaldson scored three goals each in the tournament. Wade Robins and Bennett Clark scored a goal apiece. Ben Sweet, Hank Webb, Will Webb and Will Koontz led the defense.
The McCanless Couples played at Lake Louise Saturday and ate at Salisbury’s Cracker Barrel.
Kristi Laton and Bev Cobb were the two scorers in the outing.
On Sunday, the McCanless Couples played with a Captain’s Choice format.
The team of Ricky Honeycutt, Harry Owens and Phyllis Myers finished first.
The team of Treva Honeycutt, Glenn Trexler and Frank Foster placed second.
Don Goodnight won closest to the pin. Tim Earnhardt won longest putt.
The South Rowan YMCA is accepting registrations for boys basketball leagues for grades 3-8.
Registration is through Dec. 2.
The cost is $36 for members and $60 for potential members.
