Joseph “Kaleb” Watson, 13, is receiving his Eagle Scout Award today, Nov. 17, 2013, at Crown Pointe Baptist Church. Scoutmaster Henry Trexler of Troop 443 is presenting the award. Kaleb’s uncle, James Fink, is standing in in remembrance of Kaleb’s dad, Bobby Watson.
The son of Virginia Fink Watson of Salisbury, Kaleb is an eighth-grader at First Assembly Christian Academy, where he is on the honor roll, in Spanish Club and Honor’s English and plays in the band.
Kaleb started scouting in the second grade and earned Webelos Super Achiever Award, Perfect Attendance Award, Carl Doby Courageous Cub Award and The Arrow of Light. He also earned the God and Me, as well as God and Family before becoming a Boy Scout. In Boy Scouts, he has earned God and Family, Salisbury/Spencer Historical Trail Medal, Scout of the Year, Troop Historian Award in 2012 and World Conservation Award. He has held the position of Scribe, Quartermaster, Troop Historian and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. In September 2013, he completed his Order of the Arrow ordeal along with earning 65 merit badges. Some of his scouting excursions include attending summer camps at Camp John J. Barnhardt, Camp Belk, Camp Daniel Boone, as well as 10 days at the 2013 National Scout Jamboree in West Virginia.
Kaleb’s Eagle project involved organizing 27 volunteers in clearing a pathway, laying gravel and building a 5×25-foot bridge over a ravine leading to a mine at Gold Hill Historical Park with a total of 274 service hours.
