Thomasville woman survives after being hit by Amtrak train

THOMASVILLE (AP) — Police in Thomasville say a woman has survived being struck by an Amtrak train traveling through town.
A statement from police says Tilwanna Sherri Moss, 42, was taken to High Point Regional UNC Health Care Tuesday for a fractured leg.
According to police, witnesses saw a woman attempting to cross the railroad tracks just after 2 p.m. even as the light signals were flashing and the crossing gates were lowered.
Paramedics found the woman conscious and alert sitting in the street. Police said it appears the train barely brushed the woman as she was trying cross the tracks.
The Amtrak train was traveling at almost 80 mph as it passed through the intersection on it way to Raleigh from Charlotte.
