Salisbury’s boys soccer team plays in the 2A Western final tonight at home against Lake Norman Charter at 6 p.m.
Salisbury (25-1) is ranked first in 2A and hasn’t lost since an Aug. 26 setback against Statesville.
Salisbury’s Bobby Cardelle is one of the top scorers in program history with 103 career goals and has found the back of the net 10 times in this year’s playoffs.
Salisbury won home matches with East Burke, Lexington, CATA and West Caldwell to reach tonight’s game.
Lake Norman Charter (16-6-2) is a No. 10 seed but is now ranked fourth in 2A. The Knights have won home matches against R-S Central, Lincolnton and Shelby and won 1-0 on the road at Surry Central in the second round.
Lake Norman Charter lost to CATA, Salisbury’s third-round victim, early this season, but the Knight have made an impressive playoff run, including a quarterfinal OT victory against Shelby.

First Flight (22-0) plays Carrboro in the Eastern final.
The 2A championship game is set for N.C. State’s Dail Field at 5 p.m. this Saturday.
Catawba’s men’s basketball team lost to Belmont Abbey 98-77 on Monday.
Catawba (0-3) was playing its third game in as many nights. Belmont Abbey went 8-for-13 on 3-pointers, shot 51.3 percent from the floor and got 20 points from Drexler Clark.
Catawba put five players in double figures. Troy Warren and Julian Sampah had double-doubles. Jalen Byrd led Catawba’s scoring with four 3-pointers and 25 points. Nick Houston (Carson) made four 3s and scored 16. Chance Rucker scored 14.
Catawba was 1-for-11 from the 3-point line in the first half and dug a 53-30 hole at the break.

Shi-Heria Shipp (Salisbury) is playing basketball for Temple.
Shipp missed a season at George Washington due to an injury, so she’s eligible to play for the Owls this season as a graduate student.
She had a great debut, with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists in a win against La Salle. She went 8-for-8 at the foul line and was named Atlantic-10 Rookie of the Week.
• Pfeiffer freshman Amy Steller (Davie) had nine points and three rebounds in a 71-57 loss at Coker.
• Gardner-Webb’s Jessica Heilig (Salisbury) had five points, seven rebounds and two blocks in a 71-60 win against UNC Greensboro on Monday.
• Wingate’s Janitsha Williams (Statesville) scored her 1,000th point in Monday’s win against UNCP.
Logan Shuping (East Rowan) made his first career hole-in-one Saturday on the No. 3 hole at Warrior.
Shuping used an 8-iron on the 162-yard hole. The shot was witnessed by Lisa Shuping and Logan’s playing partners Todd Shuping, Mark Hoesman and Jordan Shepherd. Shuping was playing on Tough Turkey Day at Warrior and was the Shootout champion. He defeated Mark Andrew on the 18th hole.
The Dogfight winner on the front nine with a 33 was the team of Ronnie Eidson, Mike Cabe, Jon Waller and David Creswell.
They won a scorecard playoff with the team of Brian Hewitt, Bill Meek, Dick Rouse and Ned Hurd.
Eidson, Cabe, Waller and Creswell also won the Dogfight on the back nine with a 33. Richard Cobb, Bob Boltz, Roger Williams and Jack Egbert teamed to shoot 34.
Closest to the pin winners were Shuping, with the ace on No. 3, Jimmy Christy on No. 6, Hurd on No. 8, Waller on No. 12 and Bubba Hendren on No. 16. Skin winners were Shuping, Brian Craft, Hendren, Hurd, Boltz, Lee Frick and Andrew.

The cheerleading state championships are scheduled for Saturday in Raleigh, with 140 teams participating. Competition begins at 9 a.m.
The matchups for the Rowan YFL Super Bowl at South Rowan High on Saturday are set.
The 3rd-4th grade third-place game is the Granite-Faith Chargers against the West Rowan Falcons at 10 a.m. The 3rd-4th grade championship game is the South Rowan/Carson Colts vs. the North Rowan Cavaliers at 1 p.m. Both teams went 5-1.
The 5th-6th grade third-place game is the Granite-Faith Chargers against the Rockwell Black Knights at 11:30 a.m. The 5th-6th championship is the South Rowan Raiders against the North Rowan Cavaliers at 3 p.m. North is 6-0. South is 4-2.
• South won 20-6 against Rockwell on Saturday in a 5th-6th grade game. Braden Graham, Andrew Kennerly and Khalil Sims scored TDs. Peyton Rohletter caught a conversion pass from Kennerly. Max Blackledge, Drew Huffman, Andrew Furr, Zachary Hit and Jacob Livengood were defensive standouts. Jordan Childers intercepted a pass.
The FCCA Green Dragons (13-4-1) reached the final of the Carolina Shootout, losing the championship match 2-1.
Tournament scorers included Ben Childress (four goals), Maddox Goodnight (three), Oscar Enciso (three), Wade Robins (3), Will Webb (two) and Colin Donaldson (two). Leading the defense for the Dragons were Ben Sweet and Bennett Clark.
