Pfeiffer freshman Mike Smith scored 28 points and made a clinching layup with 11 seconds left as the Falcons beat Catawba 90-86 at Goodman Gym on Sunday.
A.J. Clark scored 25 for the Falcons, while Armin Omanovic had 17, all in the first half.
Catawba got a big game out of 6-foot-9 Troy Warren, a freshman from Lake Norman. He had 26 points on 12-for-14 shooting and added 15 rebounds and seven blocks.
Elon Edwards had 17 points and five assists for the Indians, who led 50-48 at halftime and had a 12-point lead in the second half.
Chris Watson scored 10 for the Indians (0-2), and Nick Houston (Carson) and Jalen Byrd had nine each.

Salisbury will host Lake Norman Charter in the 2A Western Regional final on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
The Hornets are 25-1 and have won 23 straight.

The schedule has been set for the NCHSAA state football championships. The eight championships will be held Dec. 13-14 at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh and BB&T Field in Winston-Salem.
The 2A classifications will play their games at Kenan Stadium, with the 2AA final on Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. and the 2A game set for Saturday morning, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m.
Carter-Finley will host the 4A class and one of the 3A championships. The 3A title game will be the first of the tripleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m,, followed by the 4A game at 3 p.m. and the 4AA at 7 p.m.
At BB&T Field, the 1A game is scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by the 1AA championship at 3 p.m. and the 3AA final at 7 p.m.
Time Warner Cable will provide live coverage of all eight football finals.
Catawba’s Matt Jordan-Steele finished 92nd in the Division II Southeast Regional.
Jordan-Steele ran 35:00 in the 10K race.
Erica Boles led Catawba’s women. She ran 25:03 in a 6K race and finished 91st.
Catawba’s women were 26th. The men were 27th.
The regional finished Catawba’s season. The Indians will race next fall under the direction of coach Brittney Chester, who was promoted after the retirement of Bill Haggerty.
Virginia State and Winston-Salem State, both 9-1 and nationally ranked, will meet for the CIAA championship on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bowman-Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem.
Pfeiffer’s women beat Belmont Abbey on penalty kicks in the Conference Carolinas final.
• Wingate’s women edged Lincoln Memorial 2-1 on a goal late in regulation to win the SAC championship.
