A Salisbury woman was taken to the hospital just before noon today when the mini van she was driving collided with a RITA van on Brenner Avenue at the entrance of Harris Teeter grocery store.
Salisbury Police say Marcia Hunter, 68, was seriously injured in the crash. She was taken by ambulance to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Hunter was leaving the parking lot of Harris Teeter when police say she pulled into the path of the oncoming Rowan Individual Transportation Assistance (RITA) van that was traveling on Brenner Avenue.
It is unclear if there were any passengers on the RITA van. Charanda Perry, 35, also of Salisbury, was driving the RITA and was not injured.
According to emergency communications scanner traffic, Hunter was pinned inside her Toyota Sienna minivan. Salisbury Police Capt. Shelia Lingle said Hunter suffered broken bones.
Salisbury Police blocked incoming traffic on Brenner Avenue, heading toward Jake Alexander Boulevard. Other traffic traveling from Jake Alexander Boulevard toward Brenner Avenue was detoured around the crash.
The mini van was heavily damaged where it was hit on the driver’s side. There was also some damage to the front of the RITA van.
Salisbury Police, Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, Salisbury Fire, Rowan EMS and Rowan Rescue Squad responded to the scene.
