SALISBURY — The Salisbury-Rowan NAACP chapter will hold a public meeting Thursday at a Salisbury church to discuss the conduct of some officers in the Salisbury Police Department, local NAACP president Scott Teamer said Wednesday.
Teamer said the meeting was scheduled to air concerns among community members regarding possible police brutality and the department’s diversity.
“We are concerned about the direction that the police department is going,” Teamer said. “We’re concerned about the hostility toward African-Americans, particularly.”
Teamer said the NAACP has contacted Salisbury City Council several times about the allegations.
Recent incidents, Teamer said, prompted the meeting. NAACP members are expected to discuss allegations in detail.
The meeting is slated for 6 p.m. at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, 719 S. Caldwell St.
