The N.C. Department of Transportation continues to make strides on the 6.8-mile I-85 widening project to expand the interstate from four to eight lanes from south of Bruton Smith Boulevard (Exit 49) to north of N.C. 73 (Exit 55) in Concord.
Beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, crews will temporarily close the entrance ramp from Poplar Tent Road to I-85 South so a new entrance ramp can be built to tie in with the interstate’s alignment. The closure will be in place until 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11.
Motorists can use the following signed detours to access I-85 South:
Poplar Tent Road east of I-85: Follow Poplar Tent Road to George Liles Parkway back to I-85 South; and
Poplar Tent Road west of I-85: Follow Poplar Tent Road to Derita Road to Bruton Smith Boulevard back to I-85 South.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
