Authorities say a Salisbury man asked to leave Walmart didn’t go quietly, but was instead charged after he pulled out a box cutter and threatened the store’s loss prevention officer.
Salisbury Police charged Johnathan Cory Yarborough, 27, of the 600 block of Sides Road, with misdemeanor aggravated assault.
Yarborough and two others were inside the store Friday afternoon in the electronics department. At some point, the loss prevention officer asked Yarborough to leave.
A department report said Yarborough walked toward the door. He got into an argument with the store loss prevention officer and pulled out a box cutter.
He and the other two people jumped into a car and left the parking lot. Police received a description of the vehicle and stopped it near the parking lot. Yarborough was a passenger in the vehicle and the only one arrested.
Yarborough is currently on probation for a September conviction of communicating threats. In 2011 he was convicted of drug possession and a seat belt violation. In 2010 he was convicted of drug possession and injury to personal property in June 2004. In 2003 Yarborough was convicted of second-degree burglary, injury to real property and misdemeanor assault.
He was released from the Rowan County Detention Center after posting a $2,500 bond.
