Catawba College’s theatre production of Ntozake Shange’s “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf” will be student directed.
Senior theatre arts major Ashley Noelle Jackson will direct the production.
The production is a choreopoem about self-identity and liberation involving five women uniquely bonded together by tragedy, pain and female empowerment.
Each woman is represented by a color of the rainbow, and not only do the characters’ colors represent their individual struggles, but they also symbolize their unity.
The five-woman cast includes senior TyNia Brandon as Lady in Red; sophomores Caitlin Billings as Lady in Green and Melissa Tarduno as Lady in Yellow; and freshmen Cheyenne Hicks as Lady in Brown and Tabitha Bass as Lady in Blue.
The crew and designers for the show include senior Jonathan “Gyo” Gamble, lighting designer; juniors Ashley O’Donnell, stage manager, and Shannon O’Donnell, costume designer; and sophomore Cody Mangum, assistant stage manager.
The show opens at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Florence Busby Corriher Theatre on campus.
It continues at 7:30 p.m. through Saturday, Oct. 26.
