Congress is still being paid
Being aware of what is happening in Washington is the responsibility of every American. The members of the House of Representatives are sitting in Washington being paid $174,000 a year plus some expenses, their share of their Federal Employee Health Insurance and their “perks” like their gym while the government shutdown drags on without any real give and take on the issues causing the shutdown.
The guards for the federal forests, parks, monuments, the people who answer Medicare and Social Security Questions and the federal employees who support other services we all benefit from are not working and not being paid. Their health-care insurance costs are going unpaid and their other bills are going unpaid. The Senate and the president are also being paid.
The Post has published addresses, phone numbers and email addresses for all of our legislators and executives. Shouldn’t we using them to light up their phones and filling their email boxes and P.O. boxes with questions like who are you representing? What are you accomplishing?
This is no longer a party issue; it is an issue of integrity and responsibility to do what is best for America.

Reconsider on VSO
Regarding changes in the county Veteran Services Office:
I have a question concerning our lawmakers and elected officials.
I would seek for you to think again about why you took away some of military service veterans’ most helpful help. I was one of the lucky ones who received the veteran services officer’s expertise and help when I really needed it. All these officials would have to do is to go by her office and see the number of service personnel seeking her help at any time or day. She served us as we served our country.
Please look again and see the good work and help we so need. I’m an ex-soldier in the U.S. Army.

Make Knox priority

I’d like to thank Eric Perry for his Oct. 7 letter about the interests of our children at Knox Middle School.
I have attempted without success to contact school system officials to discuss the same issues that Mr. Perry talked about in his article.
Why? Why do we not have these four teachers in place at Knox?
What is it that we as parents need to do in order to be allowed an education for our children? Why not return calls from parents? Why can’t we get it right?
As black parents, we do have a dream. The dream that our children can be educated, grow up to be respected successful adults and part of this society.
Rowan-Salisbury Schools, you need to get your priorities in place.
This is so wrong and hurtful, but we won’t quit or give up on our children.
