East tennis sends six to regional

East Rowan’s tennis team continued its strong play in Tuesday’s SPC tournament and advanced six girls to the 3A Midwest Regional.
Lizzie Weaver placed second to Cox Mill’s Sarah Jiang in singles, while East’s Lauren Agner took third place.
East’s doubles teams of Rebecca Agner-Lauren Thomas and Drew Pethel-Emma Ritchie also qualified for regional play on Oct. 18 at Concord’s Les Myers Park.

Salisbury shot 118 and won a CCC match against East Davidson (154), West Davidson (159) and Lexington (172) at Winding Creek.
Salisbury’s Grace Yatawara was medalist with a 37. Isabella Rusher shot 38, and Madeline Hoskins shot 43.
Carolina Parrott (51) and Shelby Holden (56) also competed for the Hornets.
East Davidson’s Sam Smith shot 42. West Davidson’s Olivia Mast shot 47.
The D-II Bulletin ranks Livingstone’s men 18th nationally in its preseason poll. LC guard Mark Thomas was listed as one of the Bulletin’s Super 16 players for the Atlantic Region.

Erwin won 14-1 against Southeast. Caroline Johnson pitched a one-hitter and struck out five.
Leading hitter for the Eagles (8-3) with three hits was Reagan Perry. Gracie Honeycutt, Anna Shafer and Ashlyn Fritz had two each.
Knox defeated North Rowan 8-1.

Singles winners for Knox were Rachel Seifert, Bethanie Stauffer, Skye Mowery, Saleema Sabadaka, Maleah Corpenig and Rainey Durham. Doubles winners for the Trojans were Durham-Lindsay Jones and Laura Bullock-Roberta Moulton.
•Knox lost 6-3 to Salisbury Academy.
Sabadaka was the only singles winner for Knox. Sabadaka-Jones and Moulton-Bullock won in doubles.
Two local golfers are at the top of the leaderboard in the eGolf Tour’s NorthStone Open in Huntersville. Will Collins has shot 65-69 — 134 for second place, one shot back. Frank Adams III is at 67-68 — 135 and is third.
Catawba’s women lost 4-3 to Queens on a late goal by Brooke Foil. Karen Presnell (Salisbury) scored for the Indians.
• Catawba’s men lost 2-1 to Queens on Wednesday. Frankie Cardelle (Salisbury) made six saves.
