NC legislators unhappy about unemployment board

RALEIGH (AP) — Some key legislative leaders want to know why Gov. Pat McCrory has not yet appointed three members to a review board designed to hear unemployment insurance benefit appeals, and they say he’s not following the law.
Sen. Bob Rucho of Mecklenburg County complained Wednesday at a legislative committee about McCrory’s lack of appointments to the independent board, which the legislature directed him to complete by Sept. 1.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported the legislature initially ordered then-Gov. Beverly Perdue to name the board in late 2011, but a technical problem and a change in administrations delayed the appointments.
A McCrory spokesman says the governor is reviewing candidates.
Rucho says the board is supposed to end the current method by which the unemployment agency chief reviews appeals.
