CHINA GROVE — “Strength in Weakness,” an interdenominational women’s event, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, 1415 S. Main St.
Speakers will include Michelle Hunter, Phyllis Keels and Susan King. Lisa Troutman will lead worship music.
“We wanted to create an event that would help equip women to live with power and confidence when they feel overwhelmed, disappointed and defeated,” said Hunter, who organized the event.
Through Bible teaching and worship, “Strength in Weakness” focuses on: how to look beyond human relationships and find fulfillment in Jesus, not just survive but thrive in the midst of life’s ongoing struggles and find abundant streams of joy and hope in the valley of despair.
A member of Mt. Zion, Hunter has served as a Sunday School teacher there for more than 30 years.
She works full time as a business systems analyst for Wells Fargo and empathizes with the struggles women experience while trying to balance spiritual, personal, home and work life.
Hunter desires to connect personally with women of all generations, come alongside them in their spiritual growth, and help them find their ultimate fulfillment in their personal relationship with Jesus.
An award-winning author with several published books, a Bible study guide, and two blogs, Keels brings the tender, loving words of the Heavenly Father to those who are crushed in spirit.
She shares honestly, and often humorously, about her experiences with loss, specifically the loss of her daughter Julie, while proclaiming the Lord’s faithfulness and calling women to a deeper level of honesty and intimacy with Jesus.
A full-time writer, speaker, and business owner of The Gifted Writer, Keels is a member and deaconess of First Baptist Church in Salisbury.
King is a speaker, author and inspirational Bible teacher. A member of First Baptist Church in Salisbury, she teaches a weekly Sunday School class with an average attendance of around 90 people.
Her passion is to help women thrive in their relationship with Jesus in the midst of life’s ongoing challenges and struggles.
She has lived this message firsthand through parenting an autistic child for the past 20 years.
Troutman has served as director of music and worship arts at First United Methodist Church in China Grove for the past 13 years. She has a passion for allowing others to experience how God uses music to touch hearts, bring people closer to Him, and help heal and comfort. “Strength in Weakness” is free and open to the public. Child care is provided.
