The 64th family reunion for the descendants of Aaron and Esther Locke Pinkston was held on Sept. 1 at the Salem Lutheran Church fellowship hall.
President Peggy Pinkston Robertson welcomed 80 registered family members and friends.
Fred Pinkston Jr. offered the blessing before the covered-dish luncheon.
Nellie Pinkston Lentz, who turned 90 on Sept. 5, was the oldest in attendance. She is the daughter of James Robert and Ossie Elverston Pinkston.
Youngest was Loralye Jordon, born Feb. 17, daughter to Dustin Robertson, grand-daughter to James E. Robertson, great-grand-daughter to Peggy Pinkston Robertson, great-great-grand-daughter to Alice Elizabeth Pinkston Pinkston, great-great-great-grand-daughter of James Robert Pinkston. She is seventh generation from Aaron and Esther Locke Pinkston.
The family took the opportunity to visit and renew old friendships.
The next reunion will be held on Aug. 20, 2014.
It has been held on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend almost every year since 1949. The tentative location will be the Salem Lutheran Church fellowship hall.

Fourteen members and six spouses/guests gathered at Gary’s Barbecue in China Grove last month to celebrate the 68th anniversary of the graduation of the China Grove High School class of 1945.
Jim Stirewalt welcomed everyone and shared correspondence from classmates William “Bill” Kluttz of Cary and Ann Porter (classmate Donald Porter’s widow) of Pensacola, Fla.
Jim had recently visited Ramona Erwin Cline, next-door neighbor of Jim’s wife Martha, at the Lutheran Home.
Jim gave the invocation for the delicious buffet meal served by Gary’s.
A time of remembrance was led by Jim for the three classmates who passed away during the past year: Jessie Mae Guffy Fore, Shafer Eller and Donald Porter. Framed pictures of the 40 deceased class members were prepared by class member Mabel Brown and these were displayed.

The Harold B. Jarrett Unit No. 342 American Legion Auxiliary hosted the Division II Department of NC meeting on Sept. 14.
Attending the meeting were 45 Auxiliary members, two junior members and seven guests.
The East Rowan JROTC Color Guard advanced and retired the colors. Division II President Sandy Seacat chaired the meeting. Department President Sharon Neville and Department Vice- President Janice MacLeod were in attendance.
Recruiting and retaining membership was one of the main points of the meeting.
The American Legion Auxiliary is the largest women’s Patriotic group in the world.
Division meeting is a time for the chairmen to explain their plans of action for the upcoming year. American Legion Auxiliary programs include: Americanism, Children and Youth, Community Service, Girls State, Leadership, and National Security and poppy program, these are just a few of the ALA’s programs.
