Hood Theological Seminary will offer three workshops designed to prepare United Methodist ordination candidates to appear before the Board of Ordained Ministry.
Presented by Dr. Donald W. Haynes, the workshops will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon October 7, 14 and 21.
These sessions are also open to anyone interested in learning more about the beliefs and practices of the United Methodist Church and the central tenets of Wesleyan Christianity.
“Dr. Haynes has a long and distinguished record both teaching and writing about United Methodist beliefs and practices,” said Dr. Trevor Eppehimer, academic dean of the seminary. “Hood Seminary could not be more pleased to serve as host institution for these sessions.”
Among the many topics to be covered are:
• How to prepare for papers and oral exams for all committees;
• The Wesleyan Way of Salvation;
• The Doctrine of the Trinity;
• Arminianism and Calvinism;

• Atonement Theories;
• The Wesleyan Quadrilateral; and
• Human Nature, Sin and Grace.
Haynes is a distinguished United Methodist lecturer, columnist and author.
He is former chair of the Western NC Conference of the United Methodist Church Board of Ordained Ministry and has taught United Methodist Doctrine, History and Polity at Hood since 1999.
Haynes has served the United Methodist Church as an ordained elder for more than 50 years.
A recipient of the Harry Denman Evangelism Award, Haynes is the author of “On the Threshold of Grace: Methodist Fundamentals.”
He has also authored the widely read bi-weekly column “Wesleyan Wisdom” for the United Methodist Reporter since 2005.
