Two people were sent to the hospital following two separate traffic accidents Wednesday at Mooresville Road, which occurred within an hour of each other.
The first crash occurred around 4:15 p.m. in the 7300 block of Mooresville Road, near G. Goodnight Road. The collision involved two vehicles — a sport utility vehicle and a tractor trailer hauling a bulldozer.
Gigi Larson, 44, of Mooresville, was traveling west on Mooresville Road in her Ford SUV when she crossed the center line, colliding with the side of the tractor trailer, said Trooper C.T. Walker of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
The blade of the bulldozer hit the driver’s side of the SUV, causing major damage and temporarily trapping Larson inside. She received minor injuries, including cuts from the broken glass.
First responders on the scene said the blade came so close to Larson’s vehicle, it cut a slit in her shirt sleeve. She complained of arm and shoulder pain.
Locke Fire Chief Rusty Alexander said rescuers had to bend the window and door frame in order to get Larson out of the vehicle.
The tractor trailer was driven by James Deal, 60, of Fayetteville, who was hauling the bulldozer for the National Guard.
Deal was able to pull into the only available place — the Millbridge Speedway located at 6670 Mooresville Road. He was not injured in the collision.
The second crash occurred around 5:15 p.m. in the 7500 block of Mooresville Road and involved a pickup and passenger vehicle.
Names were not immediately available, said Trooper Sgt. E.T. Suttles, who investigated the crash.
A Ford pickup traveling east on Mooresville Road was stopped because of the collision ahead and a 2009 Toyota crashed into the back of the truck.
Suttles said it was unclear if the driver of the car was traveling too close and didn’t have time to stop. The driver of the car, a female, ran off the road to the left. She was taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical with unknown injuries. No other information was available late Wednesday.
