Henderson Independent High School has been temporarily placed on lockdown this morning, school and law enforcement officials said.
Someone reported to the school resource officer seeing two individuals walking northbound around North Main Street near the school supposedly carrying some type of long guns, said Salisbury Police Chief Rory Collins.
Collins said police officers were sent to the area and did not find anyone in the area.
He said school officials made the decision to place the school on lockdown for a period of time as a precaution. The incident was reported some time before 11 a.m.
Rita Foil, Rowan-Salisbury School System spokeswoman, said the school began a “code yellow” lockdown around 10:45 a.m.
Foil said a code yellow means that classes continue as usual, but the doors to the building are locked and there are no outside activities. The lockdown is expected to lift soon, but Foil said she didn’t know when.
