Salisbury’s boys soccer team won 3-2 against Central Cabarrus on Monday when Michael Brown scored in the final minute of regulation.
Salisbury (8-1) is ranked second in 2A and handed the 3A Vikings their first loss of the season.
Bobby Cardelle scored twice on assists by Zack Sukkasemen, early in the game and early in the second half, for a 2-0 SHS lead.
Two defensive miscues cost the Hornets two goals and momentum, and it was 2-all when Lucas Capito beat his man wide, got the edge, and sent a ball across the box.
Brown got to the ball just as it reached the ground and one-timed it into the back of the goal with 54 seconds left.
“It was an excellent match,” Salisbury coach Matt Parrish said. “Both teams has serious momentum advantages and opportunities at different times. Central coach Mike Dye always has his team ready to play.”
Central was the only team to beat Salisbury in 2011 when the Hornets won the 2A championship.
Salisbury plays at home tonight in a jayvee/varsity doubleheader against Monroe’s CATA (Central Academy of Technology and Arts). The jayvees start at 5 p.m. The varsity begins at 6:30.

• In other Monday non-conference matches, Lexington beat South Rowan 1-0, and Mount Pleasant topped East Rowan 4-2.
North Rowan’s football team (4-0) is No. 1 this week in the NCPreps and Carolina Preps polls.

Davie County beat North Davidson 7-2 in CPC tennis on Monday.
• South Rowan lost to Cox Mill 7-2 in SPC play on Monday. Cierra Hunter won for the Raiders in singles and teamed with Jaycie Gyee to win in doubles. Mariah Mason lost in a tiebreaker.
Carson swept West Iredell for its 14th straight win and is ranked No. 1 in the state by MaxPreps and 35th nationally.
Carson has a big SPC match today at Cox Mill, which has only one league loss.
• In other matches on Monday, West Rowan beat North Rowan 3-0, and Albemarle topped East Rowan 3-1.
• South Rowan’s jayvees won 2-0 against Salisbury.
Lainy Slate had two aces, four kills and three digs for the Hornets.
Salisbury Academy won 7-2 against Knox.
Lindsay Jones won in singles for Knox at No. 6, and the doubles team of Seleema Sabakada-Jones also won.
Winners for Salisbury Academy were Maria Capito, Ivy Overcash, Annabel Barr, Isabel Temple and Ellen Simons. Capito-Barr and Overcash-Temple were doubles winners for the Jaguars.
Knox is at Corriher-Lipe today.
Dates are Saturday, Sept. 21, and Saturday, Sept. 28, for Carson basketball clinics and parents’ night out.
The cost is $20 for either and includes basketball camp, pizza and drink.
