Bridge lessons starting up at Rufty-Holmes

Published 12:00 am Sunday, September 15, 2013

Carol and Harold Winecoff are starting their fall series of bridge lessons at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center at 10 a.m. Fridays.
They are excellent teachers with years of experience teaching as well as playing.
All are welcome. But remember, you need to put your lessons to work by playing. There is no better way to remember lessons than by using them.
No one remembers everything every time. You don’t need to be perfect. What’s the point of lessons if you never intend to use them?
Our Salisbury games are welcoming and gentle. Come and practice your knowledge, we’d love to have you.
Games are at 1 p.m. Fridays at Rufty and 1 p.m. Tuesdays at the Women’s Club.
Winners at Friday’s game were: First, Chuck and Margaret Rimer; second, Jean and Loyd Hill; third, Betsy Bare and Gloria Bryant; fourth, Anna and David Goff.
Board No. 17 is our highlighted board. The Bare/Bryant pair was best E/W bidding 4SE+1 while the McLaughlin pair was best N/S pushing E/W to 4DW-3. No one vulnerable; N dealer.
One pair bid 4HN and went down due to two weak minor suits while Spades bid E/W made due to void in Hearts giving East ruffing power.
E/W was pushed into 4D and South quickly passed with good Diamonds in his hand. Also note that HCP count is equal in both hands at 20 until hearts were bid in N giving E/W 23 points.
