MOORESVILLE (AP) — A murder charge has been dropped against a former teacher in Mooresville who had been accused of stabbing her boyfriend to death.
WSOC-TV reported the prosecutors said the evidence did not support the charge against Dawn Kavanaugh.
Kavanaugh’s attorney, Lori Hamilton-DeWitt, says her client acted in self-defense when Ronald Ketchum was stabbed to death Feb. 10.
Kavanaugh told the television station that Ketchum attacked her and she escaped and he attacked her again.
She says she thinks her action saved her life.
Kavanaugh was once teacher of the year at Lakeshore Middle School.
She was in jail for more than a month.
State prosecutors dropped the charge late last week.
