Also on Tuesday, City Council:
• Lowered the speed limit on Hill Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Railroad Street to 25 mph.
Nearly 60 percent of property owners on the two-block-long street signed a petition to lower the speed limit.
• Adopted a resolution honoring S. Ellis Hankins for his service as executive director of the N.C. League of Municipalities. Hankins will retire Jan. 31.
• Announced that Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department will host Movies in the Park, a free event at City Park on Friday. The movie will begin at 8 p.m. Bring a blanket or chair to watch the featured movie “Safe Haven.”
