The Delta Xi Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. is partnering with Novant Health Breast Center and First Calvary Baptist Church in its efforts to bring breast cancer screening and awareness of the dangers of breast cancer to the community.
On Saturday, Sept. 14, mammograms will be offered to women over 40 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at First Calvary Baptist Church, 200 S. Long St. Early detection is the key to reducing death-related incidents resulting from breast cancer. The sorority is encouraging women to fight against breast cancer by having an annual mammogram.
Pre-registration is required; an appointment can be obtained by calling 704-640-0087; the deadline date is Sept. 6. The mammogram screening is offered to those with Medicaid, Medicare insurance and without insurance.
First Calvary Baptist Church’s Missionary Unit 6 will offer blood pressure checks, diabetes screening and mini-workshops on other health issues.
Health is a global initiative of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. One of the sorority’s health goals is to reduce disparities of treatment of diseases which disproportionately impact minorities. Renese Bates is the local president and Marva McCain is the chapter’s health initiative chairman.
