Police are looking for a suspect who broke into the Kmart store early Saturday and took a jewelry display case. It’s the third jewelry theft from the store in six months.
Salisbury Police received a call regarding an alarm at the store at 2:30 a.m. A police K-9 unit was called in to search the building. The suspect was long gone.
When officers looked at security footage, they could see a person gain access to the store via the garden center. The person smashed the glass door with a rock.
The person was wearing dark colored pants tucked into boots, with a light colored, long sleeve jacket and gloves. The suspect had a hood on his head and his face was covered. The jewelry was placed inside bags and the thief took a spinning display case. Officers found the empty display case in a nearby wooded area.
In May thieves used a stepping stone from the store’s garden center to break into the front glass door. Once in the store the thief took a spinning display case and jewelry items from underneath the display case. The items were valued around $3,000.
In February, two men walked into the store and within two minutes they stole more than $6,000 worth of jewelry. In that incident the store was open and the men popped open the display case, put the jewelry in their pockets and walked out.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Salisbury Police at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
