Concert Choir appoints new director
The Concert Choir is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Newton as our new Director beginning with the 2013 Fall Season. A gifted recent graduate of Catawba College, Newton majored in Sacred Music, and was especially influenced by the late Paul E. Oakley, whose “impressive skills as a musician” Matt appreciated.
In addition to leading the choir at First United Church of Christ, he directs the Salisbury-Rowan Choral Society , teaches voice, and has directed theatrical productions at Piedmont Players and Catawba College.
Matt is an outdoorsman who enjoys running and exercising, plays guitar, and enjoys good food and good movies.
Matt will continue the excellent tradition of previous directors, delivering high level of performance of classical choral works to Rowan County with performances each autumn and spring. The 2013-2014 season begins with rehearsal at St John’s Lutheran Church on Monday, August 26 at 7:30 p.m.
There will be a brief audition for new singers after the first rehearsal. For more information contact Matthew Newton at 919-812-0742.
